Roy Morgan SMS poll finds Mike Baird to take the lead

If you live in NSW, you’ve probably seen the ad campaigns run by Mike Baird and Luke Foley, turning the electoral debate into an electricity showdown.

With the Liberals promising the profits from an electricity poles, wires and substations sell off will be put towards improving NSW roads, and the Labor party warning electricity privatisation will result in higher electricity bills for everyday Aussies, the March 28 state election has been a hot topic.

Tomorrow NSW voters will head to the polls to have their say and according to a recent SMS Roy Morgan Poll conducted over March 20-23 Mike Baird is set to lead L-NP to a clear victory.

NSW residents were asked: “If a State Election for New South Wales were being held today — which party would receive your first preference?” Electors were then asked: “Thinking of Premier Mike Baird and Opposition Leader Luke Foley. In your opinion, who would make the better Premier?

The results of the SMS poll leaned significantly in favour of Baird as a better Premier with 65% of votes, compared to Foley with just 35%.

Gary Morgan pointed towards reasons beyond the electricity debate for Bairds potential lead due to “the promise to create 150,000 jobs... invest funds in strengthening the health-care sector and improve access to childcare in NSW.

Morgan said “all signs points to a comfortable victory for the NSW L-NP Coalition despite losses in recent elections in Queensland, Victoria and a year ago in South Australia. When asked who they preferred as Premier New South Wales electors clearly favoured Baird 65% (up 1%) cf. Opposition Leader Luke Foley 35% (down 1%).”
