Petrol prices have continued to rise sharply in recent months, leaving plenty of motorists with some severe financial difficulties.
However, Aussies could be in for a slight reprieve, as economists have predicted fuel rates to fall in the next few weeks, as the value of Asian oil has dipped.
Economist at Commsec Savanth Sebastian said that drivers should notice the changes within seven to ten days.
"Commsec expects pump prices to fall by around four cents over the next fortnight," he remarked.
There are a few ways to ensure the cost of owning a vehicle is not too burdensome. It is always worth comparing car insurance policies before signing up to a deal, as some companies will offer far cheaper rates than others.
Certain insurers specialise in different areas so, for example, women may get a far more attractive deal from one provider than they would from the majority of its competitors.

A study conducted by car insurance provider Bingle has found that it is more expensive to own a vehicle in this part of the country than anywhere else.
This is despite the fact that insurance, parking, tolls and maintenance costs are generally lower than in places like New South Wales and Victoria.
Where Queensland drivers seem to come unstuck is the price of fuel. Bingle spokesperson Melanie Vine suggested that people who live in the state are forced to pay more at the pumps and they generally cover more ground than motorists in other territories.
The average Queenslander pays $411 more for their petrol than motorists from New South Wales.
Ms Vine urged vehicle owners to adopt a more economical style of driving so they do not need to fill their tank as often.
"Staying on the road is a necessity for most Australian families, but the increasing cost of living is making this more difficult," she remarked.
The cost of vehicle ownership has grown sharply in recent years, with drivers having to fork out sizeable sums for fuel, maintenance and car insurance.

Although car insurance claims may be the furthest thing from your mind as you leave the motor in order to call the police, your actions in the aftermath of an incident can have a big say in whether your insurer pays out or not.
Speaking to the Courier-Mail, spokesman for RACQ Insurance Mike Sopinski said it is vital that people do not get flustered and start signing statements immediately after a crash.
Obviously, the first thing to ensure is everyone else involved is safe and well and that the police have been contacted.
Once you have calmed down and started to come to terms with the shock, it is also important that you obtain as much information as possible, as this will help an insurance company decide who was at fault.
"Motorists should be aware their actions may influence subsequent legal and insurance claims by you or against you," Mr Sopinski remarked.
It has been a bleak month or so for Aussie motorists, as the price of fuel has almost spiralled out of control.
Drivers have been forced to fork out 150.7c for a litre of petrol in the past week, which represented the highest prices seen at the pumps for three years.
High fuel rates, excessive car insurance premiums and maintenance costs have made vehicle ownership a pipedream for many Aussies who are already struggling to make ends meet because of inflated energy bills and other household expenses.
However, we might be able to breathe a sigh of relief, as analysts at CommSec have predicted that petrol prices will level out now.
Senior economist at the organisation Savanth Sebastian suggested that fuel prices have reflected the sky-high value of oil on a global scale, as fears grew that there may be shortages from major producers in the Middle East.
"However it was encouraging that last week Saudi Arabian producers confirmed that they were prepared to meet any supply shortfalls," he remarked.
Aussie drivers need to be cautious when buying a new vehicle, as some unscrupulous people are selling cars that have been damaged by flood water without informing the buyer.

With the price of petrol riding high across Australia, it makes little sense for people to drive around in huge gas-guzzling machines that are costing them a fortune to run.
Finally, it seems that car manufacturers have recognised the increasing demand for more economical vehicles that require less fuel.
According to the Press Association, many of the new models showcased by the world's leading companies at the Geneva Motor Show – which kicked off this week – are smaller and more efficient.
While environmental issues have also had an impact on their latest designs, analyst at IHS Automotive Tim Urquhart said that the ongoing cost-cutting measures being deployed by people all around the world have forced the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Volvo to adjust.
"Buyers are increasingly looking to downsize and hunt for savings in terms of running costs and depreciation, while enjoying the status and quality of premium brands," he was reported as saying.
