The Qantas American Express Discovery credit card is a stand-out in the world of rewards credit cards with no annual fee and lots of rewards benefits. You'll 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer reward point every time you spend $1 on everyday purchases and an additional 1 bonus point for every $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services.

Key features:

The Qantas American Express Discovery credit card has a high interest rate of 20.74%. But the cards doesn't have an annual fee and if you pay off your balance in full each month you get 44 days interest free. The credit card comes with top Amex benefits like fraud, purchase and refund protection and global customer service.

You can earn up to 7500 bonus points simply by using the credit card for everyday purchases. You'll receive 5,000 points for spending $300 on purchases within three months, and after your first credit card spend on selected Qantas products and services you'll get another 2500 points.

Who it's good for:

If you simply want a low maintenance rewards credit card and plan to pay off your balance in full each month, the Qantas American Express Discovery Card would suit you perfectly. The minimum income requirement of $35,000 is not too steep and as points are automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account so you don't have to worry about keeping track of rewards points.

Any catches?

With a high interest rate of over 20% this is not a credit card to carry debt on. Be sure to set up those automatic payments and watch that credit limit or you'll find a $30 late payment fee or overlimit fee added to your statement.

Probably the only slight drawback, is AMEX is not accepted at 100% of the shops. But for my purposes it covers about 90% of my spending, so good enough for me, since I'm not paying any fees anyways.

      Con: you have to wait 72 hours after you have made a payment to make another. You should be able to make a payments whenever you want without being locked out. They also need to reduce their surcharges so more retailers become on board. I would ge...       Full review 

      Con: you have to wait 72 hours after you have made a payment to make another. You should be able to make a payments whenever you want without being locked out. They also need to reduce their surcharges so more retailers become on board. I would get rid of my other credit card if Amex was more widely accepted without a surcharge in Australia. Pro: the app is very efficient and user friendly, the promos they have are great including the recent Mimco and Country Road offer which I took up and I thought was very generous. There is no annual fee which is also a bonus and they're meant to have reduced their surcharge so that more retailers accept their cards without a fee. I also love the frequent flyer point affiliation

Amex are more hesitant than banks to give high credit limits, but after you are with them for a while they will increase your limit. Only thing I will say that people should be aware of is the often limited acceptance of Amex in some places - its good to have a backup visa or MasterCard.
