    Bankwest Zero Review

    Review published: 24 January 2012
    Review updated: 1 May 2012

    What's hot:

    • $0 Annual fee
    • 0% purchase rate for first 6 months
    • 4.99% balance transfer rate for 9 months

    What's not:

    • Late repayment and overlimit fees

    Mozo snapshot:

The Bankwest Zero Mastercard is a simple, no frills credit card for the everyday credit card user. You'll never pay an annual fee and for a limited time you could be enjoying a 0% purchase rate for 6 months and a leisurely 9 month balance transfer rate of 4.99%.

Key features: Zero, zilch, nada - no matter what language you say it in you'll never pay an annual fee with the Bankwest Zero Mastercard. Unlike some credit cards that have no annual fee for the first year but then start charging $50 or more, the BankWest Zero Mastercard has no annual fee for the life of the card.

There's no rewards program attached to the Bankwest Zero but who needs one when you're rewarded with a 1.00% purchase rate for the first 6 months. Keep in mind however, the purchase rate reverts to 17.99% once the 6 month promotional period expires but you'll have a comfortable 55 day interest free period for repayments.

And the introductory 4.99% balance transfer offer for the first 9 months should also help those credit cardholders looking to drop some debt this year.

Who it's good for: If you're looking for a low maintenance credit card with a great purchase rate and the convenience of the Mastercard network, the Bankwest Zero Mastercard deserves your attention.

Any catches? The 0% purchase rate offer is only available via online applications but fear not, if you get stuck Bankwest has 24 hour online or phone assistance.

Staying on top of your bills will save you from being hit with a $35 late repayment fee. Also, be aware of your credit limit or a $30 over limit fee could come your way.

This is definately a good product for a small time user that never seems to amass enough reward points to make paying a yearly fee worthwhile.       Full review

Pros. This is the only card with no yearly fee which is exactly what I wanted. So if you pay off your card each month this is the one for you. Australian call centre!! Cons. Only one branch on the Gold Coast.       Full review

I like the fact that Bankwest offers a credit card with no fees. Most other banks charge a yearly fee for the use of a credit card, which makes the Bankwest Zero Mastercard a standout product.       Full review

Bankwest sent me a nasty letter (threatening to list me as a bad creditor) for being one week late for a $17 minimum payment on my credit card facility. I emailed a complaint and never received a response until I made a second complaint. I told them I had held several credit cards for about 20 years and never was treated in this manner. To date all they said in an email was to go into a branch and explain. I find that pathetic customer support.

Bankwest credit cards have always been safe and reliable for us. Living in remote Western Australia, we do a lot of purchasing online, and have never had any problems. Even when scammers did get our details, and one time when we lost our card overseas, the customer service was outstanding and we got our card/money back promptly.

This product has a low interest rate but I'm sure there are others that are lower. Bankwest doesn't have the best level of service and it can take forever to obtain any attention in a branch.       Full review
