        Got this credit card with the Wealth Package supplied by the Commonwealth Bank. Because it is with the Package there are no annual fees although for the first 3 years I was charged a fee that I had to go to the branch to get removed and repaid. The interest rate is quite high at 24% and there has been no contact from the bank to review this rate with me. Granted I have not bothered to go myself to talk with them either. I am regularly contacted by the bank to offer me a higher limit, which can be handy at times but I haven't always accepted. The main thing I would like with this product is more contact from the bank with regard to the best interest rate for me.

Using the Amex card gets you more points than using the Mastercard, but Amex isn't accepted everywhere, and merchants sometimes charge a fee to use Amex. Pay bill in full each month to avoid hefty interest charges. If you pay for an overseas holiday using the card, you get free travel insurance.

        Although credit cards are convenient, I find they are deceptively too easy to use (WAY TOO EASY TO GET) and it is easy to fall into the trap of using them everyday and jacking them back up to their limits and then spending the next decade in paying them off. Although interest rates go down for loans (though not lately) credit card rates never seem to change and are exorbitantly high and severely unfair in this frail economy and a struggle for most families who are continually having to fall back on them.

        Commonwealth's Gold Awards program meets the standard benchmarks in terms of fee structure and overall product packaging. As an entry level product in to their elite status program, the earn rate for awards points is good, especially when the additional Amex card is utilised for additional/bonus points. Redemption's on the dedicated Commonwealth Awards Store are pricey, but there is good value in transferring points to nominated frequent flyer programs (especially Virgin Australia). There are several worthwhile perks for travellers including free travel insurance and a concierge which ultimately round the product out to a decent level of value for a niche market of consumers.

I do all my payments (insurance, food, petrol, goods and services) and it allows me to repay interest free over 55 days. One of the main attributes is its frequent flyer rewards program that is also linked to the AMEX card.

        Unfortunately we were unaware that we actually had a rewards Gold Credit card...at the time this was set up this was through a company acting of our behalf, so I believe that they actual bank did not know that we didn't have all necessary information. Recently we have been into our local branch and the service was fantastic, we are currently looking for a lower % rate card and the Customer Service attendant was very helpful. I would recommend to anyone looking to ask as many questions as possible and also look for the most beneficial card to suit YOUR needs. I love the idea of the rewards cards, just not so sure I like the % rate of interest charged nor the yearly card charges....but then it comes down to YOUR OWN needs and choices.
