Mozo snapshot:
If you are looking to land yourself a new credit card with great rates and awesome rewards look no further than the newly rebranded Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Credit Card (formally called the Virgin Flyer Card). You have the choice between 15,000 bonus points or a combined 0% balance transfer rate for the first 8 months and half price annual fee of just $64. Four times a year you can redeem a 2-for-1 flight offer with either deal.
Key features:
Right now the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer card comes with a choice of two intro deals - 15,000 bonus points or a discounted 0% balance transfer rate for 8 months and half price annual fee of $64.
With the first option, you can earn up to 15,000 bonus points. You'll get 7500 points when you apply and make a retail purchase, then another 7500 points if you spend $5000 on the card within 3 months of being approved. With this option there is also an introductory balance transfer rate of 2.9% for 6 months and the annual card fee is $129.
Alternately, you can choose the discounted balance transfer rate of 0% for the first 8 months and half price annual fee ($64) but with this option you won't get any bonus points.
While the introductory balance transfer offer is a great way to save on repayments now, be sure to pay off your balance by the end of the eight month intro period. This credit card has a standard interest rate of 20.99% for purchases and cash advances so it's not a card to accumulate debt on. It now comes with Visa PayWave functionality so you can tap and go for your next purchase under $100. The Virgin Flyer card has a 44 day interest free period. Additional credit cards come at the cost of $39.
The reward program is linked to Virgin's Velocity Rewards program. Virgin Velocity Flyer Cardholders earn 1 Velocity point for every dollar they spend (up to $1500) and then 1 point for every $2 they spend. Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer cardholders also get access to a concierge service, exclusive Virgin family offers and free transit accident insurance.
One of the hottest features of the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer credit card is the complimentary flight seat offer. If you purchase a Virgin Australia flight using your Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer credit card, you will receive a free second flight seat for a friend (up to four times a year). So if you don't like to travel alone, this is a pretty awesome benefit!
Who it's good for:
The Virgin Velocity Flyer credit card is perfect for anyone who is prone to enjoy a bit of out-of-state retail therapy and is disciplined about paying off their credit card balance each month. Note that to be eligible for the credit card you have to earn a minimum of $35,000.
Any catches?
The rewards earning rate drops after you spend $1500 each month to 1 point for every $2 spent so it could take a while to rack up a decent number of rewards points for things like overseas travel and accommodation. And keep within your limits - there is a $40 fee if you accidentally go over your credit limit.

Although having a spotless credit record. I applied for this card to take advantage of the bonus points offer as we headed off to Europe for a holiday. Application was made in March and finally, five weeks later found I had been turned down, all after submitting all documentation immediately on application and endless calls to a Filipino call centre where no one seemed to understand Australian business income. After repeated requests for someone from Australia to call any time or day EXCEPT Tuesdays when I cannot be interrupted at work, someone from Citibank finally called ... on a TUESDAY! No one from Citibank was then available to take a call when I called them back on the number they suggested in their message so after leaving them a message still no one returned calls. Is Virgin Money now going to be run by BOQ or has my application been caught up in negotiations between BOQ/Virgin/Citi? Totally appalling service for a modern Finance Company. (Is this why Richard Branson sold out...because very few could buy-into this farcical way of conducting Financial Business?)

They're ok. $100 annual fee like most interest free cards. The "free" flight is a buy one get one free and you must pay full fare and pay for checked luggage which will only just work out cheaper than getting a discounted fare. Only really use the card for the frequent flyer points to save money on flights which has been working for us. Woeful internet banking.

I signed up for a Virgin Money credit card after positive experiences with Virgin Mobile and Virgin airlines. It turns out that they have nothing in common apart from the name and rewards scheme. Their call centre is miles away and extremely hard to understand. Their website is shocking, basically non-functional. The only decent part about this deal is the four free flights per year. That is all.
