South Australian households up for a whopping $776 saving by switching electricity providers

Households in South Australia could be up for a $776 cash reward by switching electricity providers, according to energy comparison site Mozo.com.au.

Mozo crunched the data on 1,100 offers from 22 energy providers across 30 regions across the country to find the highest cost plans and where the biggest savings could be made. The study revealed that switching from the average electricity plan to the best deal on the market could save a South Australian family $326. This figure jumps to $776 if consumers are on the least competitive deal.

“Of the five competitive states we compare, South Australians are paying the highest average electricity bills, forking out $2,174 each year, which is $588 more than their Victorian neighbours,” said Mozo’s Kirsty Lamont.

While part of this is down to higher usage, it’s also due to higher prices set by the state’s distributor.

“While households can’t change where they live or their distributor, they can shave down their costs by looking for a better deal on their electricity bills.”

To compare energy plans using Mozo’s free comparison tool, consumers need to simply enter their postcode, and they’ll see a list of the best available offers in their area, which include the latest discounts from all of South Australia’s 15 providers.

“Depending on which state you call home, families could be saving as much as $984 each year on their electricity bills, that’s certainly worth switching for.”

“Savings of this size are better off paying down debts or putting towards the next family holiday, than losing out to your electricity provider,” said Lamont.

Around the nation, Mozo found switching from the average priced plan to the best deal on the market could save an Australian family $262 on their electricity bill each year and switching from the least competitive could save an even bigger $615.
