Need to think of the customers first, if the interest rates on mortgages is lowered by the Reserve Bank, then the big banks should pass on the benefits. Banks make enough profit each year and they pay their excutive staff very well, way above the average earnings of an average Australian. There are many singles, families and single parent families, pensioners who are finding life tough. Everyday expenses such as food, petrol, medication, medical expenses and electricity make it tough to make ends meet each week. I know I have reduced my grocery budget from $250.00 to $200.00, and each month I do the "$21 Challenge" (Simple Savers). I have now taken my three children out of an Independent School and they are now in Public Education system. As an average educated (Bachelor Degree) Australian with children, we stuggle from week to week. It would be nothing short of a miracle if financial institutions started looking after their customers.

We found that they catered for our needs in this product as promised and that the interest rate was 0.75% lower than the general rate. This stayed like that and every time the rates changed, the 0.75% rebate was passed on through to us. It also has an interest only option that is very handy for our investment loan, keeping repayments lower for easier management from our budget.

The interest rate is not as competitive as other financial institutions, that means I pay more money every month for no reason. I have repeatedly called and requested a change of monthly payment date, (we are 1 month in advance so there's no problem with this)3 times I have been assured that the date has been permanently changed and yet every month it has not been corrected and I have to waste my time to call again. Going into the branches though, the staff do seem to provide decent customer service.

Since the day we moved to Westpac we had loads of issues, from insurance to credit cards. Our home loan is huge and when the rates go down, it takes them 3 months to pass it on but when they go up it takes them 3 weeks. Trying to sort issues out takes hours on the phone. I am not sure any of the larger banks are much better but when we with the commonwealth banking was much easier!

Rubbish. Will be moving to ME Bank ASAP
They say "We can't help you". There is no such thing as can't in banking there is only WON'T. Westpac interest rates are 1.1% higher than ME Bank and ME provides service. They are incompetent. Full review
