Australians confess to $1 billon vices
Thursday 04 February 2010It was never going to be news that Aussies enjoy a drink, a shop, a smoke or a coffee. But how much does it cost to feed our habits?
Financial comparison website Mozo.com.au has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged Australians to put a price on their vices, courtesy of Mozo?s Vice Calculator. And it?s punching out some big numbers: the national admitted spend on vices has officially hit $1 billion – and counting.
Fashion is weighing in as our most-indulged vice at a current tally of $350 million. Surprisingly enough, gadgets clock in at second place with $210 million, with booze a distant third at $95 million.
Rohan Gamble, managing director of Mozo said, ?With this campaign we set out to get some enlightening insights into the spending habits of everyday Australians, but who would have guessed we?ve become a nation of fashionable geeks? With most individual vice calculations in the $100s of thousands it will be interesting to see just how many people will be spurred into action and make changes to their spending habits.?
Mozo?s Race for Vice President campaign runs through till March 1. http://mozo.com.au/vice-calculator.
