I have been on a disability pension for some time, and now intending to return to the workforce. I have a hearing disability, and this affects my chances of securing work. I have to therefore find alternative means to make an income, and I am attempting to build my IT expertise into a viable Support business. I have not been able to get any funding for start-up, even though I only want $1000~$2000 to get going. ANZ have not been very receptive.

Great deals, but poor interest rise
I like that they gave me a competitive deal to start with. That's what made me chose them over the commonwealth bank. However, they have just increased their interest rate, while none of the banks, including the reserve bank, have. Full review

i dislike the fact that when this loan was last redone, they changed it to a fixed rate from the variable rate it had before. No one told me about the change until it had all been signed and sealed so I now cannot pay it off sooner than the schedu... Full review

Easy to get on the phone.
It isn't so much the loan but it is easier to speak to their staff about the loan. For example changing payments or their understanding if you are slightly late. Their customer service makes their product good. Full review

Untrustworthy and sneaky
Very weary on ANZ they care not for there customers and more for profit, they are to me untrustworthy and not a Bank I would recommend to anyone if anything I would suggest another financial server instead . I believe they are not giving loading ... Full review

Overall I was satisfied with my personal loan from ANZ. The customer service agent was very helpful in guiding me through the steps to set up my loan and explained the terms of the loan in plain English. However I feel that some of the associated fees were rather excessive. For example 15% interest seemed rather high. I could have gone to a credit union for a lower interest rate but I decided I felt more secure with a bank I trust. On top of this, there is a $150 fee to set up the loan and a $200 penalty if you pay it off within a year. I understand that they need to make money but this seems expensive considering the high amount of interest I am paying.

Recently I applied for a personal loan to consolidate debt. The initial enquiry went well. I then waited a week but had no response from the bank. I rang, they had lost my contact details so could not get in touch with me....as far as the loan went, I needed to provide two pay slips which I did. I waited another week no response. I rang again. Apparently, the loan was denied because of my earnings. After questioning the person on the phone, it turned out the finance people had only viewed 2 emailed payslips as I have three jobs and emailed three lots of pays. This was a problem. I walked the guy on end of phone through my two accounts with the ANZ (same bank as I was applying for a loan) so he could view my pay amounts deposited in my account same pay for the same jobs for the last 3+ yrs. They were still reluctant to give me approval for the loan but yet happy to increase my credit card debt by larger amount than personal loan. They were not happy. I wanted to consolidate debt and close my credit cards. It wasn't till I said I was able to go to my partners bank and get loan without the hassle they approved the amount on the spot and money was in my account in less than 10 min. We will NOT be approaching ANZ for our home loan or advising our friends either
