*The Comparison Rate combines the lender's interest rate, fees and charges into a single rate to show the true cost of a personal loan. The comparison rates displayed are for the amounts and terms quoted, based on monthly principal and interest repayments, on a secured basis for secured loans and an unsecured basis for unsecured loans, and apply only to these examples. Different amounts and terms will result in different comparison rates. Full comparison rate schedules are available from lenders. Costs such as redraw fees or early repayment fees, and savings such as fee waivers, are not included in the comparison rate but may influence the cost of the loan.

** Saving based on the average difference in fees and charges over the life of the loan between the most competitive product Mozo can refer a consumer to and the average personal loan product input by 493 consumers (average balance of $19,708, interest rate of 14.9%, monthly fee of $7.80 and loan term of 4.8 years) who used the Mozo Personal Loan Health Check tool between 1 January 2012 to July 2012.

I do not recommend using the Aussie facility. The loan was full of hidden fees and extra fees that were not disclosed until the contract drawn up. I also called, got a pay out figure for the loan and requested that it include all payout fees. I paid the balance off with direct debit but because it was too high for the principle and too low for the interest (only by about $6), they froze the payment, kept taking direct debits and never told me. After hassling the staff, they finally applied the final payment, charged me extra interest and apparently the payout figure I first received did not include the payout fee (despite my request) and then I ended up owing them extra money (although I was entitled to about $100 back). When I spoke to Aussie, they said "it is not out problem if you make assumptions about what you decide to pay and not our fault if you overpay". Well, the apparent overpayment was because you took out extra payments yourselves and then still had the audacity to tell me I owed you more. Do not touch Aussie.

20 years of loyalty with this bank and a $50,000 personal loan almost paid out with them, I began my financial downfall and destroyed any chance I had to financially fulfil any dreams of owning a home or travelling after 10 years of solid dedication to a job. Arranged a meeting with my local bank manager who had previously assisted me with my first loan to discuss consolidating all my debt to only make one payment which would enable me to continue my path to a debt free life and allow me some freedom to further save a few extra dollars. I was declined due to my account being in minus of .42cents from them taking out my monthly accounting fee. My wage was due in that day and was regularly put in on a weekly basis to the same account for over 8 years from the same employer. Never missed a loan repayment and had an automatic amount set up to go into my saving account weekly. Putting a dent in my credit file and unfortunately no other bank seems to be able to help. Was falling further in debt as repayments became a struggle and eventually the $7000 owing got sent to a debt collector as I struggled to keep my head a float. This has had a devastating effect on my credit rating all because I asked my bank to help me move forward.

    • Choosing between a secured and unsecured personal loans

Before you compare personal loans, it helps to work out what sort of loan you want. If you have nothing material to guarantee the loan against, such as a house or car, you may need to look at an unsecured personal loan. An unsecured personal loan will have slightly higher fees and interest rates to offset the lenders risk for taking on your debt. You can find a range of unsecured personal loan providers on our website.
