When I went into the branch, it didn't feel like a bank. I felt like I was in a movie, playing the part of a VIP investor with a personal bank representative....yet it was all comfy and casual like visiting a friend's place. Amazing! Full review

Terrible customer service but wide service variety
I strongly dislike all aspects of this bank, unfortunately all my loans, accounts and insurance are with them as it's who my family banks and has a mortgage with. The staff are quite often rude and will talk to each other behind the glass windows ... Full review
I strongly dislike all aspects of this bank, unfortunately all my loans, accounts and insurance are with them as it's who my family banks and has a mortgage with. The staff are quite often rude and will talk to each other behind the glass windows while you stand in front of them waiting for your transaction to be finished. Their rates are constantly on the rise and I receive letters every couple of months saying my loan repayments are rising, which gets very frustrating.

After going in with all the right paper-work to get approval, I was told that I would have absolutely no problems to get approval etc and offered an interest rate lower than advertised. I was very impressed- until I decided to apply. The customer service was appalling and the person I had originally spoken with would not take calls or reply to email. I was then told that I was not eligible despite having fulfilled all the requirements. Very unhappy- I was able to get approval from another competitor bank and am very happy. I have also decided to change over all my accounts after this treatment.

I have banked with this company for over 20 years never defaulted on any credit card payment or home loan payment - it took forever, got forgotten about, questioned on everything, it was the longest every application in the world - nearly took 12 months and it was only an extension for home improvements. Made it difficult for me financially - still recovering.

Progress Saver does help to keep the interest rate down on your mortgage as long as you have the funds to put in there. ANZ are extremely helpful with finance planning but you have to be careful not to have to many insurances etc. In other words paying for a service that you don't need. They could do a little better on their interest rates as I feel the greed at the the top end is disgusting but that is like all banks.

The competitive nature of banking still does not seem to help the customer much at all. It is mainly geared towards the shareholder and major stakeholders. Unfortunately term deposits are quite low which presents a difficulty for self funded retirees or young people trying to save for a deposit on a house etc. Also you need a large amount to term deposit for at the highest available interest rates.
