I found the Greater a great place to have a home loan. When we first borrowed the money we got a free holiday. They were the last to put their Interest rates up . Overall they were great and wouldn't hesitate to use them again if the need ever arose. Full review

After banking with the top 4 banks for years and getting no further ahead on the home loan, after 2 years with the greater we were 4 years ahead. Less fees, more freedom, excellent customer service, my whole family now banks with the Greater, and they treat you like a friend not a customer.

The redraw option has no fees, great internet access for banking and convenience and the savings account linked to the home loan has no fees or charges at all and there are no catches, interest rates are passed onto customers the following month after the announcement is made by the reserve bank. There isn't a long wait to speak to a teller in a branch and every teller i have come across is friendly and helpful and i have been banking with the Greater for 25 years :)

Greater Building Society are a no fuss 'non-bank' lender if you so call it. I was a 25+ year customer of one of the Big 4 banks but they couldnt match the deals that GBS put together for our main home loan. I also switched my investment property loan over to them in order to streamline our repayements. Whilst this Building Society is geared towards servicing regional customers, they could do more for Sydney based customers in a physical sense. Overall i find Greater's variable and fixed rates among the most competitive around and that is what matters most! And Jerry Seinfield doesnt lend his own name to 'any' business if he didnt think they were worth it.

Having been with the Greater since the age of 20 (I'm now 39) my opinion of them has changed enormously. Starting as a young married Couple with a high income to now, a middle aged divorcee struggling with a Mortgage (our 3rd property and subsequent Mortgage with the Greater) has seen their attitude and lack of loyalty become transparent to say the least. After my divorce and as a single Mother, I experienced a two year period of financial strain when I was paying the Mortgage. There was no loyalty or support when I could not meet the repayments and I was bombarded with phone calls and the Mortgage was charged between $20-$50 each Month in default fees. A visit to my local Branch (Cessnock)to see if there was any way they could assist me in this temporary phase was upsetting also. Over the years there had been many changes in Manager and I was treated like a "loser". I'm now back on my feet,have caught the Mortgage repayments up and have not had a single phone call in Months. At the end of the day, they are a Financial Institution only looking after their bottom line and whilst their Marketing Campagins over the years have tried to convince us otherwise (free holidays, family oriented,caring with small town service) it's just propaganda.

The Greater Building Society in all their banking areas have been easy to deal with, polite and also on the ball with dealing with fraud attempts and following up suspicious transactions with us (only happened once). It gives you piece of mind that they care about your money and are looking to ensure it is not used fraudulently by other. The add on of a holiday when we took out our home loan was also very welcome - to know you could get away for a few days and have a break with the family!

We were with the ANZ and not very happy with their home loans. We called a rep from the Greater Buliding society. He came around at a time that suited us and gave us different options and advice. We signed up and didn't even have to contact our old lender, ANZ. I would recommed the greater to anyone.

We have used other banks in the past, Anz, national and commonwealth but the GBS has been fantastic. I can walk into my branch office and the staff know me by name even if its been months since i've been there and they are very knowledgable with their products. They help me with any queries I have. Nothing is in the too hard basket. The process of taking out a home loan and refinancing was so easy there was no lost sleep on our behalf.

The Greater Building Societies Basic Home Loan is anything but "Basic". It has a great rate of interest and offers the convenience of every type of banking you can think; internet, counter, telephone etc. The staff at the Greater took the time to explain each and every part of the home loan with us - being first home owners this was very important. We sat with our local branch manager, we were given her direct contact number and were able to call her at anytime, with any questions. The service provided to us by the staff was second to none and I would be more then happy to recommend this home loan, and the Greater Building Society, to anyone, anytime, anywhere! THE GREATER ROCKS MY SOCKS!

I have found the Greater to be very accommodating, they always find a solution to help you achieve your goals. The Greater helped my late partner and I purchase three properties using four home loan products, even though we had below average wages. When my partner died sudddenly the Greater helped me keep two of the properties by applying a 'hardship' clause. I love the fact that their operating hours include Saturday mornings as well as five o'clock closing during the week. I recently convinced my new partner to change his existing loan over to the Greater, now his loan is more flexible (he can pay weekly) and saved $200 a month on repayments!

My husband and I have tried many banks over a number of years, for personal banking as well as in business. This bank gave us a home loan, together with holidays, when others did not want our business. We have been dealing with the Greater Building Society now for 7yrs and I would thoroughly recommend it above all other banks I have dealt with. There are no valuation and loan costs if you hold your loan for a certain time, and the holidays we took were a great plus.
