No monthly fees, can withdraw money via 'cash out' so the lack of atms is not such a big deal. Closest branch is half an hour away which is a little inconvenient. Full review

Upside is excellent customer service, staff are very switched on and always know what they are doing. They are also very careful not to hurt customer's feelings if the latter makes silly mistake (my case :) ) Downside -- only 1 branch in Adelaide and ONE ATM. Is it too expensive to install more? This one just skips me.

I love this HSBC Savings Account, the interest rate is higher than most I've seen, even higher than term deposits I have, yet there are no set periods or fees if you withdraw money like the term deposit, there are no fees or charges at all, I easily transfer the money into the account on my computer. The interest is calculated every month and I can watch my money grow.

Pros: Online account with ATM debit Card, account all in one, ATM withdraw unlimited to HSBC Bank ATM machine + six from any other ATMs belonging to other banks, No $2 fee for withdraw at Westpac and St George ATM machines; Online double security using your created password + electronic token device to log in or transfer funds from account, that changes code every 30 second; Short time wait to get through and make phone enquiries; Low international withdraw fee Cons: Low interest rate and only on the balance $2000+, not many HSBC ATM machines and most of them around CBDs, over the phone enquiries not always with proper/correct answers (poor phone line staff training), there would be no access to online banking if there is not token device with you

It beats all other so-called BANKs with always better interest rate, less blah blah blah fees, you can withdraw money from other (St George, Westpac) bank's ATMs all without charge. Try other banks then compare to this HSBC, you will be surprised that your bank make money on your money and still charge you Blablabla fees. Other banks send you statements and will charge you $2.50, force you to use Email, can we try saying that if you charge $2.50 I will charge you $2.50 for the process fee that forces me to use Email Transaction?

HSBC is a great savings card that actually helps you save! No annual fee, free unlimited use of St George, Westpac and HSBC atms, free EFTPOS usage including withdrawing cash, and most importantly, you can call them anytime and you are not talking to an indian call centre! You do speak to Singaporeans but their english is pretty good and very polite. Service is awesome, I can't complain! Now I can use credit option since my savings card is also a debit card. I recommend this product to all my friends, and to all the backpackers who work with me and they have all opened up a HSBC account and are very happy with their decision.

Initially it was a great online savings accounts. Unlimited free use of electronic withdrawals e.g. bpay, eftpos and at the time, one of few that offered deposit and withdrawal facilities at Australia Post, which was everywhere. Additionally, 5 free ATM withdrawals a month with any bank's ATM AND a competitive 5% interest rate. Many people signed up at the time and word of mouth amongst the community was that it was one of the better products out in the market. Things have now changed however. An interest rate of 1% is somewhat uncompetitive and no free monthly withdrawals anymore. To offset this somewhat, it is still free at Westpac (& HSBCs) ATMs. So instead of finding any ATM, it is now up to finding the specific banks' ATMs. Not as convenient as once used to be but better than fee-paying ATMs. Nowadays, a lot of other banks also offer their facilities via Australia Post. So that advantage has now been neutralised too. The only other benefit, or security I should say, is that they have a "security device" which requires an additional password for making online transfers on top of your normal everyday internet banking password. Other banks have similar security with mobile sms I realise but what if you didn't have a mobile or your mobile ran out of battery? Anyhow, overall, still a great product despite the lower interest rate it now offers comparatively to its earlier product launch days.
