I have an online account that was simple to set up with NO charges and have had no problems with them. Definitely recommend to others. Only negative would be that there is no link between other countries' HSBC banks so no account history could be passed along.

HSBC - we joined thinking we could easliy deal with both Singapore and Australia. Whilst they are "the worlds bank" you can't easily link OS accounts, do OS transactions eg transfer from your HSBC Overseas account (Singapore) unless you are RICH - that is a Premier Member (ie invest a great amount).

I had an account with HSBC and havent used it for a couple years. So I called up and want to find out if the account is still active. The guy answered the phone with a strong Asian accent, which id fine because its a foreign bank. He asked me for my name and I couldn't understand his English. He repeated about 3 times before I understood. So I gave him my first and last name like he asked, and told me he couldn't find my record. I was sure I am in the system because I called before. I gave him my middle name and old address voluntarily, then he said he found it ! I can't believe how unprofessional he is. Thought they may have better training for being an international bank. Being bilingual is good, but if the staff can't even deliver basic service, it's just not good in any ways. Had the same problem with Citibank years ago. Will steer away from foreign banks from now on

I like it because it doesn't have saving account charges. Also it is an international bank which also exists in Asian countries. But they don't have a lot of offer on their interest rates compared to the Citibank.

There are not many HSBC ATM machines available for customers although they have now affiliated with Wespac. Furthermore, there are only 2 branches available in Perth which makes it hard for customers especially when they want to open up any accounts.
The best thing about HSBC is their security code system whenever we wanted to do account transfer online, in which I think it is very safe to do so as they have come out with some security code system for accessibility.

The HSBC Serious Saver account will only accrue interest if the user makes zero withdrawals. On the plus side, there are no fees and no minimum account balance.

I chose HSBC as my bank because they are recognized worldwide. As I travel frequently, an internationally established bank is quite essential for me. However, because of their status, HSBC charges and rates might be higher than local banks.

HSBC unlike all other banks provide an account that has no fees at all.
There is no charge or limit to ATM or Eftpos transactions.
The only catch is, you need a considerable amount of money to open this account. I believe that is $500.
It is standard across all banks in Australia to incur a charge of $2 for use of another bank's ATM.
You are well advised to make use of Eftpos vacilities at major retailers which do not necessarily require a purchase and are mostly free of any charge, in order to avoid using other banks ATMs.

HSBC is a very safe and secure bank. Online access is easy and the security is the best around. However, HSBC in Australia are not good when it comes to personal banking - they fare better for business banking. There is very limited access to ATMs and the products are as basic as can be. To get only if you are desperate.

The HSBC Online Savings Account is a fantastic product. Definitely for those that never want to have to stand in queue in a bank branch again, this is suited for those that do their banking online.
Pros: No Eftpos charges at all - unlimited Eftpos - handy when you go to businesses that allow you to withdraw cash at point of sale.
Fee Free ATM access through any HSBC ATM (there's not that many around) or Westpac (there are a lot around) in Australia. Internationally it's cheaper to withdraw from HSBC ATMs than their other partners.
Good interest rate for an everyday type of account. They also have high interest savings accounts available
Cons: Not for everyone.
Hard token required to access online banking.
Online banking, while you can do everything you want, some transaction types can be a bit painful (setting up regular transfers just about needs a Bachelor of Science majoring in IT to understand what needs to happen)

I chose HSBC because it was better than ANZ in terms of high interest rate and free monthly fee. I'm switching bank to ANZ because ANZ offer better deals than HSBC.
NOW, HSBC has become ANZ in the past, one of the lowest bank interest around for daily saving account.
Be the best and offer the best interest rate and free monthly fee will keep your customers. ELSE they will be dropping one by one like flies.
