I have seen the industry change and develop over the years but NPBS has remained customer focussed and driven by its desire to serve rather than be driven by the greed of shareholders and investors.   They deducted by misktake almost $2500 from my account. They didn't believe me at first, then I had to fill out piles of their paperwork, just so I could get my OWN money back. The Branch staff varied in niceness and I was completely SICK of 'The perm' as we call them after this and changed banks. It was a tiny apology I received and heaven forbid if I asked for the interest they would have asked for if it was me OWING THEM money!!! I had been with them for about 7 years. Never Again

  Sadly this is a bank that has only a small number of branches. Should you move out of Newcastle you have no access to a branch (there is one in Parramatta but thats it!) I've called several times needing something and was advised that I needed to visit a branch in person. As I'm not in Newcastle, this is not possible. I also spoke to them about a personal loan, I had one 4 years prior. They stated that as the loan was more than 2 years and I had paid it off so quickly, it was not in their best interest to loan me anything under $10000. I only wanted $2000. So you have no other option but to close your account as no provisions are made to you except face to face communication for many matters.

  With 6% interest I not only get a good return on my savings but also by having the agreement to deposit at least once a month and not take anything out or I lose my interest for that month, it makes sure my savings are growing. They even let my 17...       Full review

  I have been with this bank most of my life and I believe it is great. The only downfall would be the lack of ATMS around Australia and the world. My family and I went to Samoa for a family vacation and my partner is with ANZ. He found it easy to find an ANZ ATM, which didn't cost him any additional money to withdraw. The same thing happened in New Zealand. Overall, it is a good bank though - easy to use and everywhere I have been, there have been helpful and reliable staff members.

  I have been with the Newcastle Permanen since 1988 and have them to be the best financial institution to deal with. In business I have had to deal with other banks and none of them come close to the Perm. keep up the good work.       Full review

  I approached the Newcastle Permanent B/S more than 20 yearas ago, just after my divorce, had just got a job, and was one half of a bankrupt partnership. I needed a loan to buy a second-hand car, and they took me on. I will always be grateful for their understanding and trust in me. Now that I have retired and have my pension account with them, I am still treated with the same courtesy and called by my name.
