The Newcastle Permanent is the most difficult to deal with. I have experienced poor customer service and ridiculous procedures from them at multiple branches.
At one stage, they insisted on three days to clear one of their own counter cheques.

Their fees are next to non existant . Over the counter service is great . Internet service is simple and free . Interest rates are competitive . Over the counter cheques free . No penalties for not having much in there . Convenience for me at least with branch locations .

the employees at our branch are friendly and go out of the way to assist you in the fields that you may need it is great to be treated so well at this branch at rutherford when any thing different is going on they always let you know if you are getting the right type of interest and let us know of any new products that are available

I have a Christmas account and it is great to get a nice surprise at Christmas with a nice amount there to buy Christmas presents and food. I do not notice the amount being taken out each month from my normal savings account. It is just so good!

They have branches everywhere. Their rates are competitive. They are usually friendly. They are local to Newcastle but are branching out. They are cheaper than the banks. They are not overly forthcoming with loans etc. Some of the service can be unfriendly. Overall I am happy with them.
