Outstanding an account for me with Police Credit when I was born and I have been banking with them for years. I love their phone banking, which I use regularly, however they only have two branches in Victoria. Despite the lack of branches in comparison to other banks, every time I have gone in to a branch the staff and service have been amazing. Also, they have great partnerships with other banks such as Westpack so customers can use these ATMs with quite a large number of free transactions. However, my favourite aspect about the Police Credit is their sponsorship of sites such as You and Money. Through this I have gained knowledge about saving, banking and other important financial information. The site has been a great resource for me, especially as I am a uni student, and not so commerce-inclined! :-)

The staff at Police Credit are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always willing to help with anything you need. They even help entertain bubs when we go into the branch!! Their normal savings accounts and credit cards don't have all the frills like rewards programs but the no/low fees make up for this. They don't have their own ATMs but use Westpac ATMs and you don't get any additional fees. I believe you can also go into Westpac branches to make deposits. I would definitely recommend Police Credit to anyone.

I've tried every major bank and several small ones [despite being only in my 20s]. I think a large element in the future of successful banks will be their customer service. The internet and the level of competition has resulted in the increase in consumer confidence and familiarity with smaller banks. Police Credit offer really friendly service and their fee structure is great. They have a good system which allows you to use Westpac ATMs free - so you don't miss out there. They give the impression that they genuinely care about their customers too - which is refreshing. the only cons: 1. Their branches are few and far between and if you need to go in there for any reason it can be very difficult. I think there should be a way to change PINs over the phone if the customer chooses to do so. Then they would be perfect. 2. Their 'dishonour fee' is too high. Most banks have reduced this following evidence that the amounts are unjustified. PC is behind with respect to this.

They offer free of charge: 10 ATM withdrawals pm, 20 eftpos transactions pm, 10 chq withdrawals pm, 4 over the counter visa cash advancaes. but beware: dont accidentally overdraw your account by even 1 cent (very easy to do when direct debit payments are set up), as you'll cop a $19 dishonour fee...hard to cope with when you are on a reduced income, but these days, even credit unions only care about $$$$, which is too bad for their members. Deposits and free ATM withdrawals are through Westpac/St. George...great if you can find one (bit scarce in the country), or you can go to one of their 4 Victorian branches (Cardigan St in Carlton, World Trade Centre in Melbourne, Monash Medical Centre and at the Glen Waverly Police Training Academy). Used to offer excellent service to members, but this has deteriorated as they have grown and changed their focus. However, I am talking specifically in relation to their Multipack Savings account, and they do offer a surprisingly wide choice of other products...just make sure you research thoroughly to get the correct product that best suits your banking needs...because not every account is the same...so make sure it is working for you the way you need it to. Otherwise, I would rank them higher than Commonweath Bank, and on an even par with the other big three banks (ANZ, Westpac, NAB). The key to making your money work for you is to research, compare and choose whichever product fits your style of banking.
