SmartyPig is without doubt the worst banking product I have ever used, which is saying something. Transfers take forever to arrive and the monthly payments are far too infrequent to be useful. Having realised these gross deficiencies, I want to close my account and withdraw my money but it seems I have to wait a week for last week's transfers to clear, then another eight to ten days for the money to transfer. Lucky me. These long delays are inexplicable and inexcusable. It's one thing to have a pretty website, but this is a service that is simply not ready.

Opened a free savings account in september last year to try it. The rates are alright considering the amount I'd put in and the concept was new to me. Send the last money to reach my goal on the first of feb 2010 and then the trouble started. First of all it takes way to long to clear even though the money disappeared from the funding account and appeared in the savings. To get access to your own money after you've reached your goal is extremely hard and takes a long time. Because of the fact that they apparently have different stages of clearance for funds. First you wait till it shows up in your piggy account and than you wait another 5 days for the cleared funds to further clear. Then you receive an e-mail that you have reached your goal plus a notification on your piggy account page with in there a link to receive back YOUR savings and of course when you click the link a message appears that your funds haven't cleared yet and you have to wait another three days. So from my order to deposit on the 1st of the month and various stages of funds clearing I still can't spend my own dollars until the 12th of the month. This is of course if I don't take serious my last phone conversation with one of the staff there who told me that it probably would clear the 16th. Any way they did take my complaint and somebody will get in touch with me on the 11th to sort things out. My tip? Stay away from this product it's not worth the hassle. What if you need your funds for an airline ticket or some deposit? Update: Even though they've told me to get in touch with me on the 11th nobody did. Overall service rating absolutely nil! ING direct works better. Usually within 48 hours any transaction is completed.
