The platinum credit card is very competitive in rates and allows me to pay it off each month through a link to my home loan. This way I keep interest payments to a minimum. Full review

Whilst I have not been with St George long, they have so far exceeded my expectations. When looking to change credit cards from my original bank, I had initially applied with another firm and been approved, however their service even before I had received my card was terrible. It was so bad that I cut the card up the moment it arrived in the mail. St George on the otherhand were fantastic, I spoke to a person straight away, no waiting in phone queues for hours, and she confirmed my approval and limit immediately. Every part of dealing with St George so far has been exceptional. They made me believe that banks actually can care.

5 years ago I had suffered a life threatening illness and was given only a few years to live. My parents organised my bank accounts. After 5 years of rehabilitation I am now cured and well. So part of getting back into life was for me to take charge of all my bank accounts and details. Was a bit daunting. I personally went round to all my local banks. ANZ, The Commonwealth, Westpack, NAB and St George. Not all of them were bad, some were good, some were very average, but one stood out for a few reasons. This was the St George, they arranged a personal one on one meeting with the branch expert - I was most impressed as I hadnt booked in, I had just turned up unannounced. This gentleman sat with me for ever 45 mins explaining all my options. He immediately got me a better interest rate on my money and gave me his personal email address to contact him every 3 - 6 months to see if he can better my interest rate. I felt like the branch actually cared and was very friendly, professional and actually cared about making a difference! Not that the other Banks were terrible its just that my local St George bank was astoundingly good, its just so hard to find great service these days. I was also concerned about identity theft so they gave me a few options and were very helpful. Lastly I was one day late in paying my last bill and they waved it, I was not penalised, My mother is with the NAB and she was penalised for being one day late. Its the little things like this that keep me with St George. Getting back out into life is quite an exciting prospect and sorting out all my bank details is just one less thing I have to worry about thanks to St George!

Yesi have found the interest rates a bit high and a lot of the customer service slow and unhelpful when I have been asking for help. People need to do their research on competitve rates from other banks before deciding on st george. Full review

YesThis bank has never given me issues. Exceptional customer service but saying that, if you have problems going to a branch usually resolves them and the staff are very friendly. I would expect this from any bank though so I don't really consider it... Full review

We see the big profits announced on the tv and we know where their money is coming from - from the struggling every day customer who is locked into a seemingly never ending cycle of debt!

The St George travel money card is fantastic for those wanting to travel with the peace of mind of knowing their money and accounts are safe should they lose their credit card. The travel money credit card product makes it easy to transfer money to and from the card, and yet is not linked to any other account so should the card get lost then there is no fear - simply log in to Internet banking and take all the funds off the card. Fantastic!

YesI like this credit card because of its rate, but don't believe you should be charged an annual fee as well. Especially as they get interest charge each month added to your account if not paid in full. I am sure 90% of people don't pay off in full ... Full review

Continual phone call harrassment when in arrears during working hours getting me in trouble with my employer...And 99% of the time they are oriental, have poor english and are shocking to understand making the whole process even more irritating! We all fall behind here and there and catch up again subject to income flow! These calls should not be necessary if regular payment is made even if in arrears and penalties should be abolished as we are already paying interest on interest. Penalties just hold that person deeper in the debt, making the situation worse not better! Interest rates are also quite higher than most nowdays with low interest credit cards more widely available.

I applied for a credit card for a balance transfer based on the attractive interest rate offered by St George. I found the over-the-phone service very good overall, however the customer service representative did not inform me that I would need to go to a branch so that an identity check could be performed. When I rang to inquire about my card several weeks later I was informed of this. It was difficult to physically get to a branch due to the inconvenient opening hours which resulted in another delay. The credit card was then sent to a different branch to the one that I went to for the identity check, which I found out on my first attempt to pick the card up. I have not been in the area I am living now for long, so I requested that the card be sent to the branch i originally attended. This occurred promptly however i was not able to schedule to pick the card up for another 4 weeks due to the opening hours of the branch. When I was able to get to the branch I was informed that I needed to produce ID again to be able to collect it. As mentioned I have not lived in the area long and have no ID with my current address (I had taken a bill to the original ID check, but did not anticipate another check, and was not told on my first attempt to pick the card up...). Therefore I could not pick up the card and activate the account for another 2 weeks. Overall I estimate that it took 2-3 months to complete a process that I know from personal experience can occur within 1 week with other banks. In this time I had to pay substantial interest on my other card, which was the main reason I applied for a St George account in the first place. I was very tempted to cancel the account and only chose not to so as the time I had spent already organising it was not a complete waste. I am quite disappointed overall with the whole process and would not recommend a St George credit card to others, if they do not already have an account with St George. I have signed up for internet account access(quite easy over the phone) and hope to carry out any further banking this way.

St George Credit card offers no special rewards for being a customer, their annual fee and interest rates are high, however they are a well known and reliable bank name which instills a sense of trust. I have no idea whether they appreciate the loyalty of their customers as I have not had reason to put them to the test but somehow I don't think it counts for much.

In applying for a Transfer Balance Credit Card with St George I found that their email instructions were confusing and when contact with their call centre was finally established they were no more helpful. When it came time to collect the card again issues were experienced with Branch staff not knowing what was actually going on e.g. being told card had not been ordered and would have to be collected in a weeks time only to be told when card collected that it had been there all along.
