      The pros of bankmecu is that it is a customer owned bank, the customer actually benefits when the bank does well and has a say in how things are done. Being accountable to your customers is quite an achievement for a bank. The only cons I would...       Full review 

      The pros of bankmecu is that it is a customer owned bank, the customer actually benefits when the bank does well and has a say in how things are done. Being accountable to your customers is quite an achievement for a bank. The only cons I would say would be that there are no local branches, which could affect some people who do not have the internet or a phone.

      When they were the credit union they were great but when it changed to mecu it got less personal, rules/fees etc changed without notice. Just got harder. I have one account to clear and then I'm out of there.       Full review

      What a confusing product! They charge you to use their own Redi ATM network, and have higher costs than any proper bank - unless you restrict your account usage to one transaction a week it seems! What a complex 'member reward system'! Wake up mec...       Full review

What a complex 'member reward system'! Wake up mecu! You say 'benefits are returned to members in the form of product discounts'. Yeah right. Have you checked out a NAB Classic Bank Account? $0 fees. Plain & simple. Even ANZ Charge a flat $5 per month. You should be ashamed of your hypocrisy.

      I like it because over the last 25 years I have obtained much cheaper car insurance with Allianz through MECU. Only up until recently there was no account fees for my Visa debit card but now a small charge but still worthwhile having.       Full review

      We have dealt with MECU for many years as well as other banks but rate MECU way above the banks. In fact we now bank exclusively with MECU. Service, low or no fees and ease of use (user friendly website)are features beyond compare.       Full review

      As a credit union, mecu acts in a non-profit milieu. The more you have invested with mecu, the more your charges are rebated. In addition to interest being paid on funds invested on current account, you, also, have access via a card to all rediATMs, which largely overcomes the problem that mecu has few physical branches.

      Fees on face to face banking and ATM withdrawals introduced with no advice to members; unfortunately when you are on a limited income you don't seem to matter to an institution which markets and prides itself on it's commitment to it's members needs. Ironically, this institution has adopted a bank mentality and it now seems that if you are a big investor/account holder, you are more able to negotiate and bargain lower fees and better "deals" (eg. no fee accounts for minimum balance) An unfortunate case of "living in Bank World" - to rob another bank of it's current face of banking - Go Barbara (love this ad). Currently in process of shopping around, as I have the time/ability to now; this is where it appears this banking facility makes a lot of it's "profits" - in the knowledge that people don't have the time to or are unable to access the appropriate channels to look at changing their banking facilities.

      This account is my everyday account. I use it to pay bills via cheque or online and cash withdrawals. I can check balances any time by phone or on the Net. ATM access is via Redi Teller and there are 2 Redi Tellers at my local shops. When I contact mecu, either by email or phone the response is always quick and fully explained and all questions answered clearly.

      Pros: No recurring fees. Reasonable interest rates. Improved access to fee-free ATMs recently. Intuitive and fast internet banking. Friendly and consistent customer service, especially at branches. Competitive range of products. I have been a loyal customer of MECU for 10 years because I have been so impressed with the available products and service that nearly all my fiduciary needs are met by this credit union at significantly less cost overall compared to nearly all other banks. Cons: Branch access can be problematic and difficult to locate sometimes when making initial face-to-face contact, due to their location on large university campuses and [sometimes] limited office hours. Worth the effort, however.

      I can't fault MECU on any of the banking products I use, except the cost of international transfers where they use Travelex as their supplier. Their customer service is first rate, they make you feel like part of their 'family' and are so much more user-friendly than the majors. An outstanding feature is their commitment to the environment, where they have been very impressive.

      RegionalOne has a very personal feel. I have a good relationship with staff and the local manager. Bank fees are a bit high but being able to talk to real people on the phone and discuss issues personally is a big bonus.       Full review
