      This bank/credit branch has grown from strength to strength. While I have one other account, this is my main account. I am able to compare their practices with one of the big four, and Mecu come up with the ideas a long way ahead of them. Went ele...       Full review 

      This bank/credit branch has grown from strength to strength. While I have one other account, this is my main account. I am able to compare their practices with one of the big four, and Mecu come up with the ideas a long way ahead of them. Went electronic well before many other banks, and have a lot of community input. Very inivative for a small bank, with well trained staff (where you dont feel its a sales pitch). Dont go spending big to look big on office space etc, and you know that your money is being used well. They dont have to satisfy greedy shareholders like the Big 4

      Pros: No recurring fees. Reasonable interest rates. Improved access to fee-free ATMs recently. Intuitive and fast internet banking. Friendly and consistent customer service, especially at branches. Competitive range of products. I have been a loyal customer of MECU for 10 years and have been so impressed with the available products and service that nearly all my fiduciary needs are met by this credit union at significantly less cost overall compared to nearly all other banks. Cons: No card rewards programs. Branch access can be problematic and difficult to locate sometimes, especially when making initial face-to-face contact, due to their location on large university campuses and [sometimes] limited office hours. Worth the effort, however.

      mecu has taken over the maroondah credit union and mecu has taken over and has closed branches making it impossible for elderly &disabled to access new branch at eastland, they don't seem to care or listen to problems encountered.       Full review

      They are not transparent with their fees. On my online statement, from one month to another a Visa fee has been added without informing me. it is $1.65 per month for the 'privilege' to have a visa debit card. Their fees are ridiculous. As there ar...       Full review 

      They are not transparent with their fees. On my online statement, from one month to another a Visa fee has been added without informing me. it is $1.65 per month for the 'privilege' to have a visa debit card. Their fees are ridiculous. As there are no mecu atm's you have to hunt down a particular credit union's atm to withdraw cash without being slogged with a fee. you also get charged when you use the credit card option when making a purchase at a checkout, and of course everytime you use your card period. I have been with mecu for over 10 years, and i have had enough. Also, due to medical reasons, i have been on disability support and i have never been advised that with a healthcare card i could receive fee free banking. so add it up, over 5 years worth of fees down the toilet. so now no more mecu.
