  The rates are good and the added option of lending from a 'green' source is a real bonus. Living in Tasmania there are no branches here which can be a bit difficult at times but help is usually quick and friendly on the phone.       Full review

  Started at this bank when it was North West Country Credit. Staff and services were wonderful. As the credit union has been taken over by other financial institutions the service has become less and less. Now it is not open Saturday mornings!!!!! ...       Full review 

  Started at this bank when it was North West Country Credit. Staff and services were wonderful. As the credit union has been taken over by other financial institutions the service has become less and less. Now it is not open Saturday mornings!!!!! Our loan has been changed slightly and not to out advantage or satisfaction. Will never borrow from them again and will also tell others to do the same. Next time I need to borrow for an investment property or perhaps a business I will refinance the lot at another bank.

  What bank mecu lacks in physical branches, they more than make up for with excellent customer service. Mecu has excellent support with both phone and email. They offer a quality home loan product with a large feature set and a variable rate which ...       Full review 

  What bank mecu lacks in physical branches, they more than make up for with excellent customer service. Mecu has excellent support with both phone and email. They offer a quality home loan product with a large feature set and a variable rate which has been among the best in the industry for years. If having a physical branch close by is essential to you, then you may need to look elsewhere, but considering the value Mecu offer, you'd be hard pressed to find a better home loan.

  I have used this bank for the past 15 years or so because it was connected with my work place. it provides a good service but to change my house loan is too hard and would cos too much money for an exit fee so i just stay put.       Full review

  They turned down my application for a home loan purely based on my age and what they rated as my ability to repay the loan. After banking with them for over 30 years, I felt disappointed in their lack of trust and complete absence of flexibility and consultation. Another bank confirmed a loan within a day. They had a higher interest rate but because of their excellent customer service, flexibility and proactive advice, I rate them much higher.

  MECU promised the world when they set up our joint home loan with 2 offset accounts, but they can't (or won't) calculate the interest savings from each individual offset account separately. They also charge ongoing fees $8 per month for the offse...       Full review 

  MECU promised the world when they set up our joint home loan with 2 offset accounts, but they can't (or won't) calculate the interest savings from each individual offset account separately. They also charge ongoing fees $8 per month for the offset account which was not advised in the initial 'sell' of the product. We started out with "Free" insurance that meant if one of us died, there would be $100K protection for the loan balance which we share, but they cancelled it without any right of review, on the basis that the bank was the beneficiary of the insurance, not the borrowers. Well if we could have saved $100K off the loan, I'd say we would have benefited... d'oh. Nothing was negotiable. Ever. It's a 'one size fits all product'. The initial loan set up (2 offset accounts) seemed negotiable but they did not live up to their promises. We have 60% equity in our house and are far from 'high risk' borrowers (double income etc) but that did not get us any consideration.

  Having banked with a couple of the Big4 before, I thought I would give mecu a go. Basically the product knowledge, issues to do with contracts - which they outsource to 'Gadens', and a shocking internet banking facility have been disappointing.       Full review

They have always made sure that my enquiry has been fully addressed and dealt with and I always feel comfortable after dealing with them.   Pros: No recurring fees. Excellent interest rates. Improved access to fee-free ATMs recently. Intuitive and fast internet banking. Friendly and consistent customer service, especially at branches. Competitive range of products. I have been a loyal customer of MECU for 10 years because I have been so impressed with the available products and service that nearly all my fiduciary needs are met by this credit union at significantly less cost overall compared to nearly all other banks. Cons: Branch access can be problematic and difficult to locate sometimes when making initial face-to-face contact, due to their location on large university campuses and [sometimes] limited office hours.   The staff at MECU went out of their way to help me obtain the home loan, whilst one of the major banks was not prepared to give me a mortgage even though I had been their customer with my ex-partner for over 12 years, and had continued to pay the mortgage after the marriage split even though my ex-partner failed to met his obligations.
