    The ING Direct Savings Maximiser will put you in the right direction to maximise those precious savings with absolutely no account fees and an inviting special intro rate of 5.60%.

    Key features: After the 4 month bonus period the interest rate on the ING Direct Savings Maximiser reverts to a 4.00% standard ongoing interest rate. There’s a balance cap of $250,000 and savings in the account are covered under the Australian Government deposit guarantee.

    The combination of no account fee, no balance minimum and free transactions over the phone and on the net will give you the flexibility to access your dollars without any hidden slaps. And when you need to save, the automatic savings plan will direct you back onto the right savings path.

    The ING Direct Savings Maximiser has to be linked to a standard transaction account, but this doesn't have to be an ING account. So, if you have a great bank account with another bank or credit union, you'll get the best of both worlds. And if you ever need to have a rant or rave about your savings account, you'll be able to ring up the 24/7 Australian-based customer service hotline and get it off your chest.

    Who it's good for: The Savings Maximiser is only for personal banking customers and you must be an Australian citizen. The Savings Maximiser has an eligibility requirement of 13 years and over (usually 18 years with savings accounts), making this savings account perfect for the transition from a children’s savings account to a savings account with a linked transaction account.

    Any catches? Just be sure to supply your Tax File Number at time of sign up or tax on your interest will be deducted at the highest possible rate.

I recommend ING to my family and friends. They really are 'Perfection' for a bank, except for one thing which ticks me off. They don't reward their existing customers with the best rates. If ING Direct did this, they really would be the perfect bank who shows great respect to their loyal customers and this would truly make them a stand out from the rest of the pack.

They have other products however and I believe their term deposits are pretty competitive but I didn't want to lock my money in at the time

        I love my ING savings maximiser accounts...so much so I currently have 9 of them! You can access and manage your accounts so easily from your computer or smartphone. The interest rates are excellent and there are no fees - ever!! But the best thing is the flexibilty to save - you can set up a number of accounts, name them what you want, set up automatic debits from your everyday account and voila - you have money put away for everything from all your everyday needs like bills to your dream holiday!

        I have only very occasionally taken advantage of ING Direct's customer service, as nothing ever really goes wrong with them! Which is a good thing! The interest rate is very competitive, AND there is no minimum amount required to receive it. I also use ING for my everyday banking, and that account serves as the "linked" account that is required to remove money from my savings. No ATM or any other access (beside transfer to my linked account) is permitted, helping me resist temptation, but when I really need it, accessing my money is simple and INSTANTANEOUS! The i-phone app is also very easy to use and reliable. The only constructive criticism I could offer would be that the app is limited to certain functions. There is no facility to add a new account to my address book, or set up a new B-Pay biller, for example. If the app had the same functionality as the online interface, I would have absolutely nothing negative to say! Highly recommended.

You can also link it to your bank account for easy transfer of funds between accounts. The only drawback is that transfer takes one or two business days. Overall, its definately worth opening an account with ING Direct!

        I've been using the ING Savings Maximiser for over two years now, and I would never change to anybody else. Linked to your Orange Everyday account, it's simple to transfer funds back and forth, and there are no penalties for accessing your money. There are no fees, EVER, something that is rarely seen on any bank account. And transfers between ING accounts are instant, so there is always easy access to your money if you need it. The welcome interest rate of 5.85% is comparable to some of the other better performing savings accounts, and is paid regardless of deposits - so there is no minimum monthly deposit necessary. After the initial four month period, the rate reverts to 4.5% - again, paid regardless of deposits. Signing up is a simple online process, followed by faxing of forms and identification documentation. Overall this is the account that just keeps on giving. With flexibility to move your money around and total access to it whenever you need it, while still paying an excellent interest rate, in my opinion it beats the other, often more restrictive savings accounts, hands down!
