Do your research before heading to Papua New GuineaWednesday 11 April 2012
Although it is very close to Australia, there is a great deal of mystery surrounding Papua New Guinea.
Few people would choose the remote island as their ideal holiday destination, but this could all be about to change thanks to a new cruise service.
Speaking to e-Travel Blackboard Australia, chief executive officer of Carnival Australia – which operates P&O Cruises – Ann Sherry said the organisation is launching a new trip to the island from Brisbane.
If Aussies are tempted to head to Papua New Guinea, it is definitely worth doing some research before boarding the boat.
Finding the best exchange rates is always an important job and the Aussie dollar is currently worth just over two kina.
Ms Sherry said that considering the relatively short distance between the two countries, the cultural differences are stark.
"Papua New Guinea is one of the most remote and untouched corners of the world – it's so close to Australia geographically, but a million miles away in terms of culture and scenery," she said.
