The ANZ Travel Card is a prepaid card that allows you to select the currencies you want to spend overseas and lock in the exchange rate before you go. It has a good selection of Asian currencies including the Thai Baht, Japanese Yen along with Singapore and Hong Kong Dollars.
Key features: The ANZ travel card has the lowest purchase fee of the prepaid travel cards ($11) and you can load it with up to 10 major currencies. Anyone can purchase the ANZ travel card and it can be used for purchases and to withdraw foreign currency wherever prepaid Visa cards are accepted. Purchases are free but ATM withdrawals are charged depending on the country you are in. For example, it will cost 2.50 USD, 2.00 GBP and 2.20 Euro for each ATM withdrawal in those currencies. But on the upside, because you've locked in your exchange rate you wont be paying any foreign exchange commissions. The initial purchase fee includes a backup card but a replacement card will cost you $35.
Who it's good for: The ANZ Travel Card is great for the globetrotter who will be visiting several countries and will need multiple currencies. It's also an ideal travel money solution for Australians who are looking at hitting Thailand's beach resorts as it's one of the only prepaid travel cards that allow you to lock in the Thai Baht before you go.
Any catches? If you come home with cash still on the travel card make sure you redeem it or you'll be charged a $3 per month inactivity fee until the balance reaches zero or until 12 months after the card expires.
