  • Celebs tone it down in response to crunch

As the awards season gets underway, there is likely to going to be a distinct absence of bling and glitz on the red carpet this year.

Such is the claim of esteemed make-up artist Pati Dubroff, who has insisted that this year’s ceremonies are likely to be a little more reserved than is usual, as the stars attempt to show solidarity for fans who are struggling under the weight of a global recession.

Ms Dubroff, stylist for Aussie native Naomi Watts, asked: “Who is going to want to read about an actress wearing $500 false eyelashes when some people can’t make their mortgage payments?”

The reference relates to J-Lo, who proudly batted exclusive mink lashes on red carpet occasions in recent years, in addition to flaunting them in the video for her 2005 Hold You Down.

She will likely leave the ocular accessories at home when stepping out this year, if for no other reason than to avoid the wrath of Heather Mills, who fumed at the block-born star after finding out about her preference for the lashes.ADNFCR-1761-ID-18968529-ADNFCR
