If you whip out your concession card at lightning speed to make sure you get that 10% student discount wherever you go, chances are you currently live that frugal student-budget lifestyle. We assume you'd probably want to find just the right transaction account to fit this lifestyle, right?

Well, the Community First Bank Student Starter Account could be a contender, because if you’re a student, apprentice or trainee between 17-24 years old, you won't be whacked with any monthly account fee.

The account comes with the latest mobile payments options to let you leave your wallet at home (think Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay), plus PayID if you're looking for a fast and easy way to transfer money to your mates. You’ll also be happy to hear that you can manage your account and make unlimited free transactions via phone, internet, Eftpos and in-branch.

Need to withdraw some cash? You'll be able to do so for free at any Community First Bank ATM, or an ATM from one of the big four banks. Just remember that there's a daily ATM withdrawal limit of $1,000 with the account.

When you sign up for a Community First Credit Union Student Starter Account, you’ll receive an Eftpos/Visa debit card, which comes with the option of a $500 Visa overdraft (subject to lending criteria). Or if you are more into wearables, you can opt for a payWave wristband to connect to your account - which allows you to make secure purchases below $100.00 in a flash!

Who is it good for

The Community First Bank Student Starter Account could be an excellent everyday account option for Aussies between 17 and 24 years of age, who are studying or undertaking an apprenticeship/traineeship full-time. And once you’re over 24 or are no longer studying, you’ll be able to switch over to a regular Community First Bank Access Account.

Any catches

Thinking of spending your uni break travelling across Europe? Be aware of the 3.00% foreign exchange commission, which is a pretty standard feature for most transaction accounts, but can eat into your travel budget. However, Community First Bank won't charge you any fees to withdraw money from an ATM abroad (though the ATM provider might).
