Appier banking makes for happier customers

Appier banking makes for happier customers

Unlike Pharrell Williams we don’t expect you to “clap along like a room without a roof” but banking customers are happier than ever before, especially when it comes to convenience.

The results from the Mozo People’s Choice Awards showed Aussies are loving mobile banking apps and contactless payment features, with Big 4 convenience ratings lifting from 6.97 out of ten in 2011 to 8.18 in 2014.

While most major financial lenders now provide a standard app for everyday banking on your smartphone, the Big 4 have app’d the ante, launching the most innovative smartphone apps.

Here’s a closer look at the new technology from the Big 4 that’s making Aussies happier (or should we say appier):

Where is banking technology heading?

Alongside the great apps from the banks, organising your personal finances has never been easier with handy money tracking and budget planning apps like MoneySmart’s TrackMySpend and PocketBook that can be downloaded for free to help you reach your financial goals.

Overall, Aussies have been embracing new banking tech, such as the Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPass feature, with Westpac research showing 60% of all scheme debit card transactions in Australia are now made using contactless technology.

The next step is tipped to be digital wallets (so far only used by early adopters), which use near field communication for “tap and go” purchases with your smartphone. So watch this space…
