The judges of the 2014 Drive Car of the Year put 42 cars in 13 categories to the test at Goulburn's Wakefield Park for a week and it seems luxury German car maker Mercedes Benz has the goods with its C200 claiming the top prize of overall winner.
Drive motoring journalist Stephen Ottley said the Mercedes-Benz C200 was unquestionably a favourite going into the testing process “thanks to its blend of cutting edge style, technology, handling, safety, efficiency and value.”
The C200 beat out direct competitors the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Lexus IS, as it raises the bar in every respect, explained Ottley.
The Mercedes-Benz C200 starts at $60,900 with a 2.0-litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine with 135 kilowatts of power and 300 Newton metres of torque matched to a seven speed automatic transmission that drives through the rear wheels.
Mercedes fitted the luxury sedan with modern features including a push start button, reversing camera, Bluetooth, artificial leather trim and 18 inch alloy wheels. It also has a generous range of safety features with nine airbags, blindspot warning, automated parking and autonomous emergency braking.
“So well equipped and capable is the C200 one judge questioned why you'd bother spending any more money on the C250,” said Ottley.
