Beware of 'free shipping deals' when shopping online
Article by Mozo
Aussies who regularly hunt for bargain items online have been warned that retailers offering "free shipping" may not be telling the whole truth.
More and more people are taking advantage of the convenience of internet shopping and the number of credit card transactions made via the web continues to grow each year.
It is far easier to compare the price of goods in different stores from the comfort of your own home, rather than having to trek all over the high street.
However, Aussies who buy items from websites that offer free delivery may not be getting as good a deal as they think. A new study conducted by news.com.au has found that, in many cases, stores that offer such perks often put the original price of the items up to compensate for the free shipping deal.
Indeed, the news provider found that some traders were selling products for 20 per cent more than other retailers.
Spokesperson for consumer group Choice Ingrid Just said: "It's important that if there are shipping costs that they're clearly identified online."
