As well as causing house prices to plummet and jobs to dry up, the financial crisis is also wreaking havoc on many people’s home lives.

According to a new study from online bank account transfer service PayPal, money issues are causing more fights than sex or housework – and the number of tiffs is growing sharply.

Global research from the group shows that women are more likely to try and hide their bank account and credit card bills from their partners if they splash out on new clothes and accessories, with Aussie women found to do this most readily.

PayPal Australia managing director Andrew Pinolo told the Herald Sun that the problem is widespread.

“Even people who have a job are worried about their long-term future, which would no doubt cause some stress and potential conflict,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph reported earlier this month lovebirds hoping to tie the knot may also be running into a few obstacles as the cost of the average wedding soars above $50,000.
