Aussies who are looking to compare credit cards are continuing to search for packages that rely on cutting edge technology.

According to bosses at MasterCard, the number of people using its contactless PayPass facility – which enables shoppers to pay for low-value items by merely placing their card against a scanner – has risen sharply.

Indeed, in excess of a million 'tap and go' transactions were recorded throughout Australia in August, the firm has stated.

More than seven million Aussies are signed up to the high-tech initiative and over 42,000 retail outlets across the nation can accommodate the technology.

"Using PayPass puts both merchants and cardholders in the fast lane to convenience for the small but important purchases where you don't have the time, nor want to stand around waiting," commented MasterCard Australia country manager Andrew Cartwright.

A recent study by PayPal highlighted increased use of credit cards by Aussie shopaholics, with 80 per cent admitting they had purchased items online while they were at work.
