Don't be afraid to enquire about discounts
At a time when Aussies are having to watch every single cent they spend, shoppers should not be afraid to ask store owners about discounts.
You may have to temporarily swallow your pride, but quizzing retailers about future sales drives can save you huge sums of money.
A new study conducted by Pure Profile and commissioned by Supercheap Auto has found that Aussies lose out on a staggering $1.7 billion a year by purchasing goods just before their prices are reduced, the Herald Sun reports.
RMIT University marketing expert Dr Con Stavros told the news provider that people need to be a bit more inquisitive before they get their credit cards out.
"I'd say to people if you are buying something, there is no harm in asking if it is likely to go on sale in future," he was quoted as saying.
With the busy Christmas shopping period fast approaching, Aussies will no doubt be on the prowl for plenty of bargain gifts.
Luckily, a new study by Dun & Bradstreet has found that many retailers will be slashing the price of their products before the traditional January sales this year in an attempt to boost trade.
