Retailers across Australia are expecting people to start splashing their cash during the impending winter sales.

Money is tight for a lot of households, but Aussies still have a keen eye for a bargain.

According to the Australian National Retailers Association (ANRA), males are likely to flash their credit cards around in the next few months.

The organisation believes that menswear sales will be particularly strong – especially among younger generations.

People from Generation Y generally have more disposable income because many are still living at home and don't have the same financial commitments as older Aussies.

Chief executive officer at ANRA Margy Osmond also believes the recent interest rate cuts will lure a few more shoppers out of the woodwork.

"This sales period is significant for retail, particularly our department store and clothing, shoes and accessory retailers who are looking for a strong second half of the year," Ms Osmond commented.
