Mozo Review   Citi Clear Platinum Review

Last updated: 23 August 2018.

What's hot:
  • 12.99% purchase rate

  • Free bottle of wine when you dine at partner restaurants

  • $0 annual fee in the first year ($99 after)

What's not:
  • High cash advance rate

Mozo snapshot:

Before you see 'free wine' and run off to apply for the Citi Clear Platinum credit card take a minute to soak up the other striking features such as a low 12.99% purchase rate, no annual fee in the first year and a low $99 fee after, along with a range of complimentary insurances. Better yet, the Mozo Experts were so impressed by Citi's Clear Platinum card that they awarded it a 2017 Mozo Experts Choice Award for Best Low Rate Platinum Credit Card.

Key features:

The Citi Clear Platinum was awarded an Experts Choice Award 2017  and comes with a low ongoing purchase rate of 12.99%, one of the lowest in the market for a platinum card. The $99 annual fee is also one of the lowest around for a platinum credit card and at the moment you can snag this card with no annual fee in the first year.

And if you're looking to blast some debt before you get started with new spending, this card comes with a 0% interest balance transfer period for 14 months, and no BT fee.

If you're heading overseas, you'll be able to use the credit card wherever Visa is accepted - which is pretty much at most retailers around the world. But remember, for international purchases you'll face a 3.40% foreign exchange margin if you pay on your Citi Clear Platinum but this is standard and no deal breaker.

As a Clear Platinum card holder you'll get top insurance coverage with up to $200,000 purchase cover insurance for goods lost or stolen within 90 days for any items purchases on your card. Also included is a manufacturers warranty doubled up to 12 months on purchases. And the guaranteed pricing scheme means if you make a purchase on your card and you see it on sale at a later stage, you can get a refund on the price difference.

The Clear Platinum is all about privileges. Receive an award winning bottle of wine every time you dine in a partner restaurant as part of Citi's Dining Program and you'll also get 25% off offers available on Citi World Privileges, which includes deals for shopping, health spas and even a Sydney Bridge climb. You can even get discounted movie tickets. In addition, you get access to the Visa Platinum Privileges program which gives you access to special offers that are much harder for everyday card holders to obtain.

Who it's good for:

The Citi Clear Platinum will no doubt knock the socks off anyone who loves a good savings deal with its low purchase rate and those who enjoy a good wine from time to time.

Any catches?

Be aware of the high 21.74% cash advance rate.

My card details from a card that was reported lost 3 years ago was used in a fraudulent transaction and Citibank let the transaction go through. They advised me to ring the merchant to stop the transaction. That would mean they can still use the card at new merchants all the time and Citibank will still let the transaction go through on a blocked card.
