The Qantas Money Qantas Premier Everyday Credit Card offers a heap of value or savvy spenders. It instantly converts all points earned to Qantas Points, which can be redeemed for tonnes of different rewards. The card also comes with a number of features like a concierge service, the option for additional cardholders and by spending at least $3,000 in the first 3 months, you could score up to 20,000 bonus points!

It's even an award winner! That's right, the Qantas Premier Everyday card took out a 2020 Mozo Experts Choice Award in the best Qantas Frequent Flyer Credit Card category.

Key features

The Qantas Money Qantas Premier Everyday Credit Card is a great card for any frequent travellers that want something to help them rack up their Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

Let’s first look at points earning, as there are few different numbers to be aware of:

  •  - 0.75 points earnt per $1 spent for the first $3,000 spent of the month

  •  - 0.4 points earnt per $1 spent on purchases after the first $3,000 of the month

  •  - 1 point earnt per $1 spent on international spending

  •  - 1 point earnt per $1 spent on select Qantas products and service

On top of this, you’ll be able to kick off your points earning with 20,000 bonus points if you apply by 24 February 2021. How? Well, in the first 3 months of having your card, if you spend at least $3,000 you'll earn 30,000 bonus points.

Now that you know how to earn points, let’s go through what those points can be cashed in for. Unsurprisingly, Qantas Frequent Flyer points can be used to redeem flights, or flight upgrades. They can also be used to book hotels, be cashed in for gift cards or claim a whole range of products from tennis rackets to iPads.

For the first year, there's a $29 annual fee ($49 after). And if you're looking to transfer some debt onto a new card there’s a 0% balance transfer rate for 12 months (21.99% afterwards).

Lastly, if you want to share the account with someone, you’ll be able to do so, however there is a $25 additional card fee.

Who is it good for

For any customer that wants to double down on their Qantas Frequent Flyer points, the Qantas Money Qantas Premier Everyday Credit Card offers an easy way to turn their credit card spend into Qantas points.

snapshot
Any catches

A couple of things to remember when redeeming your points. First, if you're using your points for a flight, you won't earn Status Credits on that flight. Second, when you use your points for a Classic Flight Reward with Qantas, taxes, fees and carrier charges also apply and this cost can change depending on what flight you book and when. For example, at the time of writing, a return Economy Classic Flight Reward from Sydney to London is 120,000 Qantas Points plus $724 in taxes, fees and carrier charges.

How do we calculate the rewards?

To work out the "Rewards value minus fees" in our Rewards Revealer we:

  • calculate how many points you'd get each year,

  • figure out how many flights or gift cards or cashback credits you could get for those points,

  • work out what that's actually worth to you,

  • take off the annual fee you'd pay.

More details:

  • Our calculations are designed to help you compare the value of different rewards schemes. To do this, we've looked at earning a one-way Sydney-Melbourne flight excluding taxes and charges, a return Sydney-London flight excluding taxes and charges, a $100 shopping Gift Card and $100 cashback. Most cards will also offer other rewards, which may be worth more or less than the ones we've shown.

  • We have made no allowance for bonus points for using your card at specific merchants, introductory offers or special offers. We have not assigned any value to instant discounts, insurances, ticketing and concierge services or other such benefits.

  • Rewards value calculations do not take credit card interest into account. If you do not pay off your card each month you may be better off looking for a card based on interest rates than on the value of rewards.

  • In products that have more than one card, a different mix of spend between American Express / Visa / Mastercard will give different results. Mozo's Rewards Revealer lets you choose the mix based on the way you would use such a product, and gives you tailored results.

  • We assume flights purchased with airline points are 'classic' or 'reward' economy seats with restricted seat availability. 'Any seat' rewards will probably cost more.

  • To compare the value of flight rewards, we sample online retail flight prices once a quarter based on the average price on a Wednesday 3 months in advance but outside NSW school holidays. For domestic flights we take the lowest available fare from each flight on that day from Qantas Red e-deal, Virgin Australia Saver including baggage and Jetstar Starter including baggage. We calculate the average price excluding taxes and surcharges for each airline, and also the average across all airlines (which we use when rewards are travel agent vouchers). For international flights, we take the lowest available fares on that same Wednesday from each of Qantas, Emirates, Malaysian, Etihad, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Thai, assuming a return flight 2 weeks later, calculate the average price before taxes and surcharges and use this as our assumed cost of a flight on any airline.

  • Shopping rewards are based on $100 gift cards from a major national department store.

  • We make every effort to ensure our calculations are correct and up to date but make no guarantees.

    Astronomical interest rates, won’t negotiate.

Avoid this card at all costs. Asked for a rate review particularly during this time and first time I was hung up on, second time they said flat out “NO”. They are charging 19.99% for purchases and 21.99% for cash advances which includes any balance transfers they have not been paid off in time....I have my insurances with Qantas, Car, Life, Health and Income, time to walk with my feet for a better deal. Avoid them at all cost with their substandard features and appalling customer service.

Good, basic card for churning Qantas points

At the time, was the best Qantas FF points earning low cost credit card we could find. Low yearly fee, small charge for additional cardholder. Slight annoyance that it doesn't support Google Pay, though I guess something has to give for that yearly fee to be low. Sometimes the app's value added feature of syncing with other bank's account details to track all your transactions in one place stops working for a while, but that is a free added feature after all and it is at the mercy of the 3rd party financial institutions.
