The St.George Amplify Classic Credit Card is a rewards card that has the perks you want without the over the top fees. There are two rewards options with this card, and which one you choose will depend on what kind of freebies you’re after. The Qantas Frequent Flyer rewards scheme allows your points to be credited to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, whereas the Amplify Rewards scheme will transfer your points into various airline programs, gift and shopping cards or other retail rewards. You’ll also be able to get flights via Velocity, Enrich or Krisflyer programs with the Amplify Rewards program.
One of the bigger differences between the two options are the points you’ll earn per dollar spent - with the Qantas Frequent Flyer card, you’ll earn 0.5 points per dollar on Visa, uncapped and 1 point per dollar on Visa with Amplify Rewards, uncapped. All points on both cards never expire.
This reward card offers a 19.49% purchase rate and a 20.24% cash advance rate and up to 55 interest free days. You’ll pay a 2% cash advance fee on each amount you’ve withdrawn, as well as the interest you’ll be charged, so it’s important to avoid ATMs with this card.
In the first year, you'll pay no annual fee. After that there is a $79 annual fee to budget for, but given the rewards on offer and compared to other rewards cards, this is a pretty manageable cost.
If it’s getting rid of lingering debt that has you interested with the St.George Classic Credit Card, you’ll get a 3% balance transfer rate for 36 months, before the rate reverts to 20.24%.
