Your Australian Mutual Bank credit card comes with 55 interest free days to pay off your balance. If your aim is to keep credit card costs low, one of the best ways to do it is to use this interest free period properly. Make sure you pay off your whole balance in the allotted time, and you’ll avoid paying interest at all.
You can’t skip every cost involved with credit card use - there are some fees that will apply. These include the annual fee, a cash advance fee and a foreign exchange fee.
Because this card is all about simplicity, there isn’t an option to use it in a balance transfer deal. If you want to manage your credit card balance with a balance transfer, check out our balance transfer credit card comparison to find a credit card that will suit you.
The Australian Mutual Bank credit card is a VISA card, so you can use it for contactless payments with payWave.
Being a VISA card also means that your Australian Mutual Bank credit card operates on VISA’s worldwide system, which means you can use it pretty much wherever you are. Just remember to budget for foreign exchange fees, and keep an eye on foreign exchange rates!
This credit card is a low cost option, designed to let you spend how you want without letting costs get out of hand. Which basically means, no rewards program.
You don’t get any of the fancy extras with this credit card - like rewards points or complimentary insurance - in the interest of keeping it a low cost option.
If you’re after something that packs a bit more of a punch in the freebie department, check out a competitive rewards card to find a credit card that will suit your budget, while also earning you heaps of cool perks.
The flip side to all the convenience and spending power of a credit card is the risk of falling victim to credit card fraud. The good news is that there are heaps of security measures in place these days to make sure you’re as protected as possible when using your credit card. But there are also a few things you can do yourself to lower the risk of credit card fraud, including:
Don’t write down your PIN number! You’ve probably heard this one before, but it’s very important. Not only does keeping your PIN written down near your card give thieves instant access to your credit card, but getting your money back in the event of credit card fraud can sometimes depend on you not having ‘contributed’ to the loss by doing things like this.
Only use trusted ATMs. When heading to the ATM, make sure you’re in a well lit area, and the ATM itself looks well maintained and not damaged. Damaged ATMs can sometimes be a sign that scammers have tampered with the machine.
Review your statement. Look through your credit card statement each month and make sure there are no strange or unfamiliar transactions. If there are, contact Australian Mutual Bank straight away.

I bank with My Credit Union and even though I don't receive rewards, there rates are comparable with other banks, and I also find their service very helpful. They are polite, and I never have to wait on the line for more than 1 minute before speaking to a person.

A no frills, basic card that does the job perfectly. SCU staff are pro-active, helpful and will always follow through and call back when they say (this is rare today.) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I love the Sutherland Credit Union as they are helpful when you are at the counter with tellers. They are great when you ring up to get help or if you have a problem or are not sure on how to do something. We have been with this credit union for around 40 years and have always been very pleased to deal with them.
