Mozo Review   Westpac 55 Day Platinum Card Review

Last updated: 14 December 2017.

What's hot:
  • $0 first year annual fee offer

  • 0% balance transfer period for 20 months (2% BT fee applies)

What's not:
  • High 21.29% cash advance rate

Mozo snapshot:

The Westpac 55 Day Platinum Card is definitely worth a look. Why? Firstly, there's the $0 first year annual fee which is also waived in subsequent years when you spend at least $10,000 on purchases in the previous year. If you've got lingering debt to blast away, there's a 0% balance transfer period for 20 months. Plus, for no extra cost you get top benefits including complimentary worldwide platinum concierge service, overseas travel insurance, extended warranty and purchase security insurance.

Key features:

Some of the platinum perks you get with the card include a worldwide concierge service open 24/7, so if you find yourself in New York wanting tickets to see the Knicks play at Madison Square Garden a quick call to your personal assistant and voila!

And then there are the complimentary insurances. With the overseas travel insurance you, your spouse and dependents will be covered for trips up to 6 months as long as you have a return air ticket and $500 of each of your prepaid travel costs have been paid using your 55 Day Platinum Card. There are some limits to the coverage provided so be sure to read the policy before you take off to ensure you have the coverage you need for your holiday or business trip.

You will also get purchase security insurance (4 months cover against loss, theft or damage for new items purchased with your 55 Day Platinum card) and extended warranty insurance which provides an extended 24 month cover in addition to the manufacturers expressed Australian warranty.

The purchase rate of the Westpac 55 Day Platinum Card is 19.84% but if you pay off your balance in full each month you can get up to 55 interest free days.

If you have lingering debt to get rid of, there's a 0% interest period of 20 months available for balance transfers. Just keep in mind that there is a 2% fee on these balances, plus after this period, any balance leftover starts to attract interest at the cash advance rate of 21.29%.

The Westpac 55 Day Platinum card comes with Visa payWave technology so you can tap and go for purchases under $100 and use your card anywhere in the world where Visa is accepted. There is a 3% foreign exchange margin for overseas purchases so be sure to factor this in with your shopping budget.

Who it's good for:

The Westpac 55 Day Platinum is a top card for anyone who pays off their balance in full each month.

Any catches?

The 19.84% purchase rate and 21.29% cash advance rate are both relatively steep, so try to avoid carrying a balance or hitting the ATM with your credit card in hand.

Great bank, very easy to navigate through their phone and internet banking which is very handy if you're always on the go! The 55 Day Platinum Card is very useful if you're ready to pay off the card in full - however charges do occur and at a quite substantial rate so don't let the debt get out of hand!
