Aussies 'increasing use of debit cards'
Debit cards are becoming a more popular way for Aussies to pay for goods and services.
At least this is according to Lifehacker writer Angus Kidman, who said this positive trend is partly attributable to surcharges on credit cards often being higher than necessary.
Those considering going online to compare debit cards might be encouraged by his assertion that using this form of plastic is "sounder financial management practice".
Commenting on the high surcharges placed on credit card purchases by many merchants, he said: "The silver lining is that we're increasingly shunning credit cards in favour of debit cards."
This comes after figures from internet analyst Nielsen found the favourite shopping destination for Aussies using their plastic online in January was eBay, News.com.au reported.
The auction site received 5.58 million unique Aussie visitors over the course of the month, more than twice the number that went to second-placed retailer Amazon.
