Aussies 'still spending money on DIY'
Article by Mozo
Times are undoubtedly hard for many of us and we are constantly looking for ways to reduce our expenditure. However, it seems that we are still willing to splash out when sprucing up our homes.
A new study conducted by Roy Morgan Research has shown that more than two million Aussies have spent $5,000 or more on property renovation in the past 12 months.
Although a lot of people have had to tighten the grip on their credit and debit cards in recent months, hardware and decoration stores are still reporting strong sales.
This report follows a similar study conducted by Appliances Online, which indicated that 50 per cent of homeowners are planning to upgrade their property in the next four years, National Features reports.
Industry communications director at Roy Morgan Research Norman Morris said it is unsurprising that so much money is spent on DIY when you consider the popularity of TV shows like The Block.
"We see that renovating your home is a family affair as a higher proportion of families renovate and that the home is the heart for family entertaining," he remarked.
