Debit card holders urged to 'buy Australian'

Debit card holders have been urged to "buy Australian" in order to support the country's struggling economy.
Consumer group Australian Made, Australian Grown wants people to consider where they are buying their goods from before they enter their card details.
A spokesperson for the organisation was quoted by the Australian Associated Press as saying that Australia Day would be the perfect time to demonstrate the importance of helping out local traders.
"Buying Australian means that you are helping the Australian economy, supporting local jobs and investing in your own community," the representative stated.
He added that buying Australian means you are guaranteed to receive top quality goods.
Last month, chief executive of the group Ian Harrison suggested that the growing popularity of ecommerce has made it even harder for Aussie manufacturers and traders to attract business, as internet users can easily buy products from anywhere in the world.
He said that 88 per cent of Aussies have made at least one ecommerce purchase in the past six months, although the majority stuck to Australian websites.
