They say too many cooks in the kitchen can spoil the broth, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for the energy market. In fact, it’s preferred.

According to many experts, like Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Chair, Rod Sims, welcoming more retailers into the market stimulates competition and can drive down energy prices.

Over the last few years, the country has welcomed some new faces to the energy market, four of which have gone on to become 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Energy Award winners

But who are these new retailers and why have they caught the eyes of our expert judges? Find out below!

If there’s one thing that Powerclub believe in, it’s keeping things as open and honest as possible. Based in Melbourne, this not for profit retailer gives its members access to wholesale electricity prices on a cost per use basis, so you won’t ever pay for energy you don’t use. With Powerclub, there are no confusing discounts or incentives, just great electricity rates and minimal fees.

For this years awards, Powerclub received a massive 15 Mozo Experts Choice Awards, including the prestigious title of 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award Energy Retailer of the Year.

“One of the great things about Powerclub is that they’re a little unconventional in the way they conduct business. The retailer promises that any excess profit generated will be either given back to members or invested into the business - you don’t see that very often,” said Mozo energy expert, Nathan Warne.

Elysian Energy

Elysian Energy are a start-up retailer based in Melbourne who believe that every Aussie household deserves a great deal on their energy plan. The retailer keeps things easy to understand by offering no confusing discounts, just simple low prices". And best of all, any unused electricity in your plan can be put toward you next bill.

Elysian Energy are the proud owners of four 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Awards and also walked away with the title of 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Victorian Electricity Retailer of the Year.

“Elysian Energy are big on transparency and clarity - there are no discounts with any electricity plan and low prices, so customers can see exactly how much they’ll be charged every month,” said Warne.

Kogan Energy

One of the more recent entrants to the energy market is Kogan Energy, an expansion of online retailer Teaming up with Powershop, another 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award winner, Kogan Energy are working toward delivering energy at great value prices. Kogan Energy also aim to keep things flexible for customers by offering no lock in contracts or exit fees.

Kogan Energy received a 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award for its Market Offer in the South Australia Electricity category.

“Kogan Energy only launched at the start of September, so it’s great to see they’re already starting to pick up momentum with this win. It’ll be interesting to see if they roll out any offers or incentives for existing customers with other services, like Kogan Mobile, or new customers who sign up over the coming months.”

Although it may be better known for its mobile plans, it looks like amaysim also know a thing or two about energy. Whether you’re after gas, or electricity, or both, amaysim work to make managing your household bills as easy as possible. Amaysim also do things a little differently by offering regular ‘as you go’ and  ‘subscription style’ electricity plans for low, medium and high electricity usage households.

Amaysim picked up a 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award for its Gas As You Go plan in the Best Gas Plan New South Wales category.

“Similar to Kogan, amaysim made the decision to branch out into energy almost two years ago after solely being a telecommunications company. They offer a lot of handy features, like being able to track your usage or roll over any unused electricity for future use.”
