HIA praises Melbourne housing plans
The lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest problems Aussies face when attempting to get their first foot on the property ladder, so news of major building developments is always greeted very warmly.
Members of the Housing Industry Association (HIA) have hailed plans to create a new "super city" in the west of Melbourne, which will see 7,000 homes built at East Werribee.
The demand for mortgages across the country grew slightly in September, but many property sector experts have been disappointed with the subdued uptake of home loans in 2012.
People are being priced out of the market at the moment because of the poor choice available to them and the HIA is in no doubt that projects such as the one in Melbourne are needed if the nation's property sector is to recover.
The body's regional executive director Gil King applauded the ambitious plans laid out by the authorities.
"Once again, this government is demonstrating its commitment to real solutions rather than simply rolling out more of the same ineffective development opportunities of the past," he remarked.
