Pet friendly properties a boom for investors

Property investors who lease their property to renters with pets are set to be the big winners of the tight rental market.

According the the results of the 2013 First Time Property Investors Survey commissioned by Mortgage Choice over three quarters of all new investors who plan to buy in the next two years won't allow tennants with pets to live in their property.

For renters with pets, this means that properties that allow pets are highly sought after.

"Property owners who are happy to rent to people with furry fiends could open themselves up to a much wider rental market, so they should think about making their pet-friendly property status very clear to applicants," said Mortage Choice's Melissa McCarney.

South Australian investors had the highest "yes" votes to pets at 25%, followed by Victoria (24%), NSW and Queensland (23%), with WA at 22%.
