Rudd will hand over cash for tax forms
Prime minister Kevin Rudd will be happy to hand out $900 cash to Aussies to help them pay off home loans and credit cards or even just go on a little spending spree, providing they have done their tax returns.
Tax commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo has told the Australian Associated Press that people won’t have to lift a finger to get the cash bonus as long as they’ve filed their taxes for 2007/08.
However, he urged those that haven’t to get a move on.
“Unless you already have an extension of time to lodge in place, you must lodge by June 30, 2009 to receive the bonus,” he warned.
Once this is done, payments will be made automatically into Aussie’s bank accounts.
Those living in north Queensland and New South Wales who have been affected by the fires and floods can rest assured that they will be able to claim the dosh, as the deadline has been extended to June 2010.
The cash giveaway is part of Rudd’s $42 billion stimulus package, which was announced earlier this month.
