If you’re after a home loan that does a little more than get you your dream home, why not check out Gateway Bank’s Fixed Rate Home Loan Premium Package? The loan offers competitive fixed rates (particularly on 2-year terms for owner occupiers), some handy features (like extra repayments) and even some extra discounts as part of the package.
The Gateway Bank Fixed Rate Home Loan package offers fixed rates on 1-5 year terms, with rates starting from as low as 6.74% (6.35% comparison rate)* with a 1-year fixed term for owner occupiers. The minimum loan amount is $150,000 and there's a maximum LVR of 95%, meaning that it could be an option to consider for first home buyers with a deposit lower than 20%.
Borrowers will be able to make their repayments on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, plus they'll be able to make extra repayments towards the loan balance (for free) if they fancy chipping away at their loan faster. There's no redraw facility available, nor is there an offset account attached, but that's not unusual for a fixed home loan.
There are also some package perks on offer with the loan, including an extra 0.10% p.a on a Gateway Bank term deposit along with a discount on a CGU general insurance policy. Just bear in mind that these perks don't come for free, because the loan comes with a $299 yearly service fee.
In addition to that fee, there's also a $300 discharge fee and Gateway Bank may charge you a valuation fee the property you're looking to buy is 'non-standard'.
The Gateway Bank Fixed Rate Home Loan could be a good option for owner occupiers or investors who are keen to fix their rate for a few years with a competitive rate - particularly those who may like the flexibility provided by the high (95%) LVR threshold.
Just remember, if you are thinking about taking out a loan with an LVR higher than 80% you may be required to take out lenders mortgage insurance. The 5.99% revert rate is also something to factor in, so it might be a good idea to compare other offers on the market once your fixed rate period is coming to an end to make sure you’re still on a competitive rate.
