1Cover is an online insurer founded in 2003 which started out specialising in travel insurance, although it’s now branched out into both home and car insurance. Its car insurance policies are underwritten by Auto & General Insurance Company, so you know you’re in good hands, along with the other 1.5 million Aussies insured by 1Cover.

You can choose to pay your premiums either all at once in an annual payment, or month-by-month at no extra cost. So choose whichever option suits your budgeting style best. You can pay this premium online with either Visa or Mastercard.
You can opt for a low or high excess amount with your 1Cover policy - but remember that if you opt for low excess, you’ll pay a high premium in return and vice versa. There’s also an excess for young drivers, so if you or anyone driving your car is under 25, watch out for that!
To keep the cost of your insurance as low as possible, make sure you snag any discounts you’re eligible for. At 1Cover, this includes your no claims discount, an online discount, and a multi policy discount when you bundle your insurance products.
In an emergency is when you really want to know that your car insurance has got you covered. Although a 1Cover policy doesn’t come with roadside assistance, it does cover the cost of towing, as well as alternative transport and accommodation up to a certain amount. You can also make emergency repairs up to a certain amount without assessment.
A comprehensive car insurance policy doesn’t cover everything - as we mentioned above, roadside assistance isn’t included in your 1Cover policy.
Some other exclusions include:
There are some options available to tailor your car insurance policy to your needs. You can add cover to your 1Cover policy for:
Modifications - covered only if agreed in writing.
Rental car after accident - you have cover for the cost of a rental car after yours is stolen, but if you want to be covered in case of an accident as well, you’ll need to add that on.
