'Compare car insurance to save money this year'
Aussies looking to make big savings this year should compare car insurance and consider switching provider.
That is according to Karen Collier of the Herald Sun, who set out 50 ways that Australians can save money in 2011.
These included conducting a yearly car insurance price review to ensure the best deal is being had.
Indeed, Ms Collier outlined a number of car-related money-saving tips in her list of 50, suggesting that motorists should avoid leaving the car tank close to empty if possible this year.
"This forces you into the nearest petrol station and you cannot hold out for prices on the cheapest days of the week," she observed.
Ms Collier also advised drivers to check car tyre pressures and look for uneven wear given that both can affect fuel economy.
The tips come after research by the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council recently found that a disproportionate amount of larger and older cars were stolen in Australia last year when compared to their market share.
