Aussies keen to buy new cars in 2011
An unusually high number of Australians are planning to buy a new car in the coming year, a study has found.
The survey by Roy Morgan Research reports that 709,000 Australians intend to purchase a new motor in the next year, making it the best result since February 2008.
In addition, the poll revealed that an estimated 2,190,000 Australians intend to buy a new car in the next four years.
An upturn in car buying could lead more motorists to compare car insurance in search of the best cover for new vehicles. According to Roy Morgan Research, the latest growth in short-term buying intentions has been driven by Holden, Volkswagen and Honda.
"The automotive market continues to have strong results," noted Norman Morris, industry communications director at Roy Morgan Research.
"Most important to the industry are short term intentions, which have grown for three consecutive months, remaining well above the average and indicating growing demand for the coming year."
