Australians are still planning to buy new vehicles in huge numbers, according to latest figures released by Roy Morgan Research.

The organisation has revealed that 2,271,000 Australians want to upgrade their existing model within the next four years.

These statistics relate to April 2012 and show the demand for brands such as Nissan, Subaru and Volkswagen is particularly high.

Luxury brands like BMW are also proving popular, with 80,000 Aussies saving up to buy one of the German vehicles by 2016.

Of course, the model you choose will have a big impact on the cost of your car insurance.

If your vehicle has a large engine, the chances are that you will be paying a significantly higher premium than someone who drives a slower car.

With the overall price of motoring growing all the time, selecting a cost-effective model has never been more important. It is absolutely vital that you use your head rather than your heart when buying a new ride.
